Given in 2021 we would only have Iggy, Mitch, RJ, Knox, and maybe a few draft picks under contract (Randle is partially guaranteed I believe), what would be our theoretical cap space in 2021 with and without Randle given the 125m dollar cap?

We are as flexible as it gets the next few years. We can clear space for 2 max cats whenever we want. Obviously...things can change by the trade deadline so...nothing is guaranteed.

This season should be about developing the kids. See who is worth keeping going forward. DSJ/Frank/Trier/Dot all need to play because...next year decisions need to be made concerning these guys. Perry went a bit overboard with Elf/Ellington/Bullock/Morris deals. What is the team motive? Play the new guys over the kids for wins? That would be a disaster IMO.

Camp starts in 4 days!!!

I agree, but I don't think it will be that straightforward. There is going to be a lot of win chasing.

Also, NBA training camp doesn't start in 4 days.

September 20th...no?

According to this: https://www.nba.com/key-dates

Teams who are participating in the Global Preseason report on the 27th. Everyone else reports 10/1.

Just a few extra days!

I know the article was already posted but Hahn is highlighting all the key points today. And now, most likely will get Fiz attention

I agree with Hahn.

Just want to point out however that those vets need to be playing the right way. There's no point if that vet is Trey Burke.

So basically either last year was a blatant tank an anomaly or he's gone. I'll allow it.

As for Hahn's point - as others have noted, the meritocracy fails when you penalize players for missing shots rather than missing assignments. Young players need more rope to get comfortable.

the sixers built their culture without vets really pushing them. they just picked well. and when they didn't those guys failed. the same environment saw joell become a success and okafor fail. everybody is always looking for the secret formula, it's called talent.

It has to be a balance. I think what we did with Knox last year was too far in one direction, giving him carte blanche to shoot whatever whenever and not play defense. Sure he could be just fine, but odds are if we switch to a more meritocratic system, it's gonna take him that much longer to adjust because he thinks he was held accountable last year when he wasn't. And I have similar concerns about RJ and his defensive habits/hero ball mentality which Fiz is absolutely gonna reinforce

Young guys missing shots is whatever to me, it happens, they're not supposed to be good yet. But if they're out there being lazy on defense and taking bad shots, that's a problem

VJ Edgecombe/Jrue Holiday
Shaedon Sharpe/Cedric Coward
Kyle Filipowski/Collin Murray-Boyles

Hahn sounding like a parrot. Last year Hahn couldn't stop praising Fiz "identity" especially for the youth playing hard and being competitive in a lot of the games, even though there was a lot of losing

That IS the identity, dummy.

Now just upgrade the talent, from outside and from within. They didn't get their top goals on the outside end and it's to be determined how the inside works out, but ultimately the team needs top end talent.

Might as well Fire fiz now, this team isn't not likely to win more than 30 games. The talent just isn't there.

There's no Giannis, no Ben Simmons, Mitch aint Joel, there's no Jayson Tatum's or Jaylen Browns on these Knicks.

Let the youngins play. End of story. We are rebuilding. Embrace.
