Basketball is positionless. Its designations have no bearing on role.

Seeing Waiters take the ball from Butler ala Carleton/Will Smith should be fun, I kid lol but seriously I wanna see how Waiters & Butler get along in time.

I wouldn’t be that surprised if they start Dragic, Butler and Winslow on the perimeter. The other option seems to be Waiters who hasn’t been overly reliable for...ever. Regardless, I suspect the Heat play Dragic and Winslow together a lot this season and they probably finish games together.

I have the same question. I thought they were floating Winslow at the "4" this upcoming season to maximize shooting.

But as someone else noted, it's largely semantics, because there won't be a "pure" PG and a lot of the offense will go through Jimmy Butler. Honestly, the question is more about whether they are starting Dragic or having him come off the bench.

I was expecting something like Dragic-Waiters/Herro-Butler-Winslow-Bam against smaller teams and Winslow-Dragic/Waiters/Herro-Butler-Johnson/Olynyk/M.Leonard-Bam against larger teams.

Adebayo will be a much better starting center for them than Whiteside. Waiters has supposedly done a lot of work this offseason. Plus Herro is a good pick for All-Rookie and gives them shooting which they need. Everyone is healthy. That is a lot of positive improvements for this team.

I really think that they’re young players are underrated and Adebayo should make a leap as the starting C. I’m not sure if Herro is ready to start but his shooting would fit them perfectly.

Winslow
Herro
Butler
Olynyk
Adebayo

Well balance squad of with size, shooting, defense, and toughness. Good mix of youth and veterans. Also great depth with a solid bench.

Could be a sleeper team.

Per NBA.com , last season he ran 4.4 PnR possessions per game (30% frequency) so yeah it’s definitely a real facet of his game.

However , he was statistically pretty awful at it. 14th-percentile efficiency (0.64 PPP)

Jimmy Butler is much more efficient as a PnR ballhandler , so despite Winslow’s label I think Spoelstra is smart enough to put the ball in the hands of his star player.

who said anything about starting?
This thread and that video are making that assumption. My guess is that Winslow will be the backup point guard (even if he starts at the 3.

I think Miami's biggest question mark is how they maximize Dragic and Butler (and to a lesser extent Winslow), since all 3 of those guys are at their best with the ball in their hands. I like Miami, I think they're deep and tough, and they're adding basically 2 high level shot creators (Butler and Dragic, who pretty much missed the whole season) to a versatile tough defensive squad. But figuring out roles will be interesting. A lot of guys on this team think they should be the focal point (Butler, Dragic, Winslow, Waiters).

If you theoretically did start WInslow and Butler in the backcourt (and turn Dragic into a 6th man)... who starts at the 3? Derrick Jones jr? James Johnson? those guys are both better at the 4 and can't shoot. They'll need shooting: Dragic (Waiters and Herro maybe too)

I have no idea what to think about the Heat. I wouldn't be surprised if they miss the playoffs or got the 3 seed.
