Being 2-0 doesn't change 49ers' philosophy on trades, says Kyle Shanahan

Would be really great if Skule could come out of nowhere and play really well.

A game against a reeling Pittsburgh team helps, though we can't take them for granted. They're an experienced, well-coached team in desperation mode, and there's precious little film on Rudolph so he could surprise. Then we've got the bye and several more winnable games. We're lucky in that we face the relatively easier part of our schedule early in the season, which gives Joe some time to get healthy and return. But yes, having Skule develop would be huge.

Incidentally, Seattle is getting loads of injury help. They play Cincy without Green (as did we, of course), Ben suffers a non-contact injury in their second game (granted we'll play the Steelers without Ben), and now they face NO without Brees. They should probably be 1-2 after that slate of games, and instead they're likely to be 3-0.

On New Orleans - 49ers will be the only NFC West team that sees Brees on field this year barring an unexpected setback.

Greg Cosell this morning on Cowherd:

What did the film show (last week)? (shortened version of question)

Cosell: I don't think there's a better coach in the NFL - and this goes back a number of years - than Kyle Shanahan when it comes to the run/pass fusion element of the play-action pass game. Kyle may understand defensive responsibilities better than any offensive coach in the league and he understands how the play-action pass game - whether it's conventional play-action with the QB under center, whether it's shotgun play-action, whether it's play-action boot - he understands the responsibilities of defenders and how they will respond to what he does and then he exploits that.

I don't believe there's anyone better in the league understanding that and exploiting it. Now with the misdirections elements and the movement elements that have become a part of the NFL game, I thought last week was a clinic. He knows how to break down the rules of defense.

Cool. Return in 8 weeks, show literally the same kind of thing with Jimmy G. that he has all along (my expectation) and then HOPEFULLY they can finally move on from the TT experience.
