Never thought this was going to happen. Can't wait.

Absolutely blown away from the new album. Incredible. Danny (the drummer) is 58, just kills it.

I do miss Maynard's growl, although being 55 it probably isnt as easy to do anymore.

I've never given a full Tool album a listen but I've been aware of them and their main songs. With their new album I got curious and listened to some of it and then some of their old stuff. I like a variety of music but I'm not a huge hard rock guy but there is just something... intriguing? about them. I can't put my finger on how I feel about them, they are weird and hard to describe but it slowly grows on you.

As far as the new album, Pneuma is an amazing track.

Their music is both easy to rock out to and fall asleep to on the same album. Throw in the phenomenal musicians and it's impressive.

Completely random comment on an album I threw on for the first time in probably 5-10 years, but the self-titled Ratatat album still gets the juices flowing. Also, Classics.

This is a really nice punk* music compilation.

I was as shocked that Ocasek was 75 as I was that he died. He also produced Weezer's Blue Album. Eponymous The Cars and Blue Album are two absolute classics I spin on any extended road trip.

Tool is playing at Fiserv Forum on Oct 31 with Killing Joke.

Got tickets and am so incredibly happy to see them. Been wanting to see Tool for so long, but they haven't toured much and i missed out on earlier shows. Thought i'd never get the chance.

Got a ticket too. $25 in Ticketmaster fees. Ridiculous.

Can't wait. I had tickets to see them in Madison about 13 years ago but Maynard was having throat problems and the show was cancelled.

Can't. Wait.
Why should you go to jail for a crime someone else noticed? You don't need double talk... You need Bob Loblaw.

I'm geeked as could be to see the new recipe to a bonafide classic:

The OG version still goes in a most vigorous fashion:

“I went to Toronto, I went to Atlanta/I used to drink Pepsi, but now I like Fanta.”

-Hannibal Burress's impression of Canadian music figure Drake

I stumbled upon this nice little story by Matthew from Nada Surf about recording their first album with Ric Ocasek.

Thank you for posting that stellation. What an incredible story. Another reminder of why I love Nada Surf. His 'dichotomies at the heart of rock n' roll' bit made me think of a particular Radiohead head song that I've loved for years, 'Let Down' from OK Computer. One of the reasons, besides the fact that it's an emotional release, is that very idea. The lyrics are utterly hopeless except for one line near the end ('bouncing back and one day, I am gonna grow wings') but the music begs the listener to entertain the idea of change. It crescendos into an explosion of optimism and hope. What I feel from it is the promise of change no matter how dull and depressing life can get. I'll go so far as to say it's the song we need right now. I know Radiohead is a band a lot of people to don't get but I submit the below as beautiful entry point.

Anyone else have any dichotomous songs like that?

Brother, I've been trying to find a way to tell you how much I love Let Down but the words escape me.

It's a week ago now, but Robert Hunter passed away. He wrote songs for tons of people, most prominently the Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan.

He is the only non-performer ever to be inducted as part of a band into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame.

Here's the story of how Box of Rain came to be:

Amos Barshad: "So you got a job, a place to live, a license? What’s left?"

Giannis: “Nothing. Just get a ring now.”
