He’s our guy. Come hell or high water we’re going to sink or swim with him for the next 5 years! He’ll get his max, would be shocked by anything less

I don't think he should get the max but obviously letting him go is not an option at all so if he wants that you give it to him

Give him $300 million even! and a key to the city! and His own private Island in Hawaii! SMH. The amount of homerism on this board is approaching ridiculous levels. Lets wait AFTER this year to see if this guy can actually become a #1 option and make the All-Star team. Last year he was great for sure but lets not forget that he was playing beside a top 3 player in the world attracting double and triple teams on every possession. I need to see him repeat last years numbers AS A #1 OPTION before i crown him the King of Toronto.
If you think Siakam's stats are going to get worse while getting more possessions with the ball in his hands, then you haven't watched him play much last season.
How often is Kawhi creating shots for Siakam here? I counted 1 layup

It's interesting that in '15 and '16, the lower drafted player was actually the one that vastly exceeded expectations and fit into the long-term plans of the team (Delon/Norm + Jak/Pascal)
Delon is gonna have a better season next year then Norm ever will tbh

vbmeer wrote:The reality is he and his agent will seek the 5year/170 million deal next offseason and cite Ben Simmons and Jamal Murray. Neither of which are the best players on their team, but still got the max very quickly by the teams they were drafted in. I'm fairly certain a large portion of the Raptors' fanbase would rank Siakam above these 2 players as well, even if they don't want him to take 34 million a year on average of the salary cap. But the market dictates the price, and Siakam isn't working this hard to improve, to not secure the full bag.
Then the scrutiny and microscope will come much harder as Pascal Siakam will be the highest paid player in Raptors history.
Let's say he take a positive step and becomes a serviceable #1 option who has a strong regular season, but with clear flaws in that role in the playoffs. Would you risk trying to bargain him down to sub 30 million (12%-15% less than max per annum) in risk of him balking and souring the relationship with an uncertain core of players remaining after this season, or just do what the Sixers/Nuggets did and give their guy the max without any haggling?
Pascal as the 2nd option last season almost made the All-NBA 3rd team. He was the next Forward to make it to the All-NBA team. If he makes it to 3rd team this season, he'll be eligible for $204 million (30% of cap). Simmons signed his extension such that he will only make $204M if he makes 1st team All-NBA. If he makes 3rd team, he'll get $190M. If he doesn't make any ALl-NBA team, he gets $170M.

Siakam has a lot of leverage right now...Masai has money to spend and Siakam is the #1 priority since Kawhi left.

I don’t see the point in a discount from either side.
Jamal got max
Simmons got max
He’s getting max

For continued success. Pascal is smart enough to realize that 160 is no different than 170 when it comes to quality of life and I think Masai can make the case to him that he will aggressively upgrade the roster to keep the Raptors winning and an extra 2-4 million a year could make a real difference.

You’d have to understand the nba cap and the fact that we’re not drawing free agents to realize that this 10m dollars that you think pascal would/could give up is not going to happen.
O point in trying to get a discount
O point in getting a discount.

Re: Pascal Siakam - The 170 Million Dollar Man
Was listening to the Lowe podcast with Simmons guest starring in it.
Bill brought up a great point;
In the age where players have all the power, and they'll go wherever they want to, why give up a year so fast? Theres no compulsion to do that unless you're scared you'll piss the player off. It just screws the cap up for a year earlier anyways.
And I agree. Pascals getting the max, but he might not be as great as expected, at which point we might save some money.
Next year , sure. Max him. But we're good for now.

Yeah that's the conventional thinking for sure only thing that could give you pause is Pascal qualifying for the supermax this year(He can't right?) or him signing an offer sheet with another team for 4 years with a player option that we of course match but then lose two years of control. Of course we'd throw the 5 years at him next summer anyway so he'd have to be pissed to sign that offer sheet anyway. So basically no reason to sign him now unless you're scared he can earn the supermax.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?
Please advise….

Re: Pascal Siakam - The 170 Million Dollar Man
If he makes an all-nba team or wins a major award, it will be more than 170 million
Blake Murphy from the athletic

Re: Pascal Siakam - The 170 Million Dollar Man
Honestly with the way the cap works, as our own player its really not worth penny pinching on him. I wouldn't sign him now but if he starts the season by taking control of that #1 option and doesn't crumble under the added focus against him then I work to sign him before All-Star selections if it doesn't look like that next step is there then I wait it out. With the trajectory of this team going forward, this isn't going to be a big deal unless he regresses significantly

I hope he gives us a litttttle bit of a discount. I doubt he ever thought in his life hed be touching this kind of money. While he absolutely put in the time and work to improve his game, we gave him the platform.
