Time for Pie to prove he belongs

ChicagoSports.com wrote:Pie has not been able to translate the success he has enjoyed at Triple A to the Cubs, despite being given several opportunities. He hit .362 at Iowa but came into Friday's game hitting .217 in three stints with the Cubs, including a .121 average against left-handers. He was 0-for-2 after seeing only two pitches in his first two Friday at-bats.

Piniella was at a loss as to why Pie hasn't hit in a Cubs uniform after tearing up Triple-A pitching.

"I don't know. Maybe this is his time," Piniella said. "Maybe he's a Virgo."

Actually, Pie is an Aquarius, but no matter.

"I saw him today in b.p. and I came here open-minded," Piniella continued. "Do they still have the pool out here? Well, he was hitting them over the pool. None of them would've been in the water, so let's see what happens."

The Cubs could make one more trade in the next week to acquire another veteran bat, which would probably mean either Pie or Murton gets sent to Iowa and then recalled after the rosters expand Sept. 1

"We've discussed possibly adding one more piece from the outside," Piniella said. "That's not definite, but it's been discussed."

The clock is ticking, and it's up to Pie to show he's more than just a perennial prospect with a good glove.

Keep playing him Lou.

He looked good last night despite not getting any hits. He battled in his final 2 ABs, took some tough pitches en route to picking up a couple walks.

I think Lou wants this guy to succeed more than anybody. Dusty would've had him at triple A all year after one bad call up.

I still hold firmly that for as bad as JJ can be, his offense definitely steps up when he's not patrolling CF...look no further than his 4-5 game last night.

Yeah JJ seems to play better in RF...further reasoning to play Pie more.
