Let's be real - we can't sign free agents because we are an awful franchise with a history of mismanagement and turmoil, not because of our uniforms, how our court looks, what music we play in the arena, our theme song or anything else.
Nothing wrong with NY following a traditional model. They're considered an 'original' franchise like the Lakers and Celtics, except with way less history of success. It's important that we still carry ourselves as that traditional historical franchise and not try to be the Timberwolves or Magic.
I’ll say this again, it would be like the bulls still moving how they did when they had Jordan, he’s not walking through that door.
Why should we still carry ourselves that way when we haven’t had any sort of consistent franchise success, other than 2 decades ago?
Of course front office incompetency has been a huge issue but not being able to relate to players is another one too. Mills thought the black trio card would work but it’s more than that.
"Relating to players" by what? The look of our jersey or arena? Players care about money and winning. Nothing else. You can wear jerseys with dog crap on them and they won't care as long as they're getting paid and winning games.
Also the Bulls aren't necessarily 'holding on to the Jordan' years by not changing their look. They're another 'original' franchise that I mentioned. There's something to be said about being an original tradition rather than changing your jersey every so often and having no identity.
Fam, how do you relate to someone on the block that is younger than you but you haven’t been in touch with the youngins like that?
You listen to what they like, you add in things that might attract them while keeping your ground.
You don’t have a former OG from the block come back on the block and tell the youngins about what the glory days were like & you still run sh*t cuz eventually the youngins gonna tune you out and put two in your head for being annoying.
Original franchise means jack ****.
The bit about the Knicks doing something different isn’t about the Jersey or the arena.
The Knicks culture is boring, they don’t do anything to attract anything new to them because they’re complacent with their image. They don’t keep up to date with music that is in tune with the culture, they don’t do anything notable on social media, they’re a team that wants everyone to recognize their history and past prestige while doing nothing to add a new layer to their current persona.I love the team but it is what it is, the most exciting thing about this team culture wise was 2012 when everyone was on the same page, we had an identity, everyone was united.
Players care about money and winning, yes, obvious, but in regards to players that also take into consideration lifestyle, comfort, environment (which Kyrie & KD clearly made mention that it played into that), those things also matter. The problem with fans is black and white, it’s not black and white, these players are now expressing themselves and questioning things. Once again, Kyrie and Durant are the biggest examples of this.
If y’all have a problem with that you’ll be in for a rude awakening 20 years from now when the fandom has shifted & the players aren’t the same ol “leave everything on the floor, answer reporters questions with no hesitation, yes sir no sir” shtick that everyone is used to.
