As a team that has a lot to lose in potential free agent tampering, and little to gain, I think the Bucks would be thrilled to see any public indication that the league is cracking down on inappropriate free agent speculation.

Teams try to plant seeds in the minds of free agents in the hope that an implausible narrative gains traction and becomes realistic in the minds of decision makers.

Tamping down free agent speculation reduces distractions and reduces the likelihood of free agent scenarios getting more consideration than they would on their own.

He got Donald Sterling the hell out of there. That was a pretty big one.

The 2017 CBA has been very good -- I panned it a bit at the time because I see the graduated luxury tax as a half-measure, but in practice between that and the increased super max, it's pretty much doing the things I wanted done.

Silver's term has been largely positive so far, but yeah, this fine is very silly.

When I thought about his accomplishments - that was the only thing I could come up with. Even with that, what did Silver really do? He didn't strip Sterling of his ownership. Balmer had been wanting a team for years and paid an absurd amount to get it from Sterling. Meh.

It's definitely silly. I'm also waiting to see what the first punishment for actual tampering is. It should be a big hammer, imo, Joe Smith-level.

If they're serious about player-to-player, they should make the punishment an x-years embargo on those players being on the same team.

What did you want to accomplish? The super max hasn't stopped AD/Kawhi from switching teams. Lebron, KD, Kawhi, AD all left small markets for big markets. Plus the super max for guys who don't deserve it are crippling.

I wanted to distribute talent more equally across the league. I don't have a problem with players switching teams or taking less money to do so.

You ask 10 different people who follow the league closely who will win it all this year you might get 4-5 different answers. That's what I wanted.

Silver has served as a caretaker of the league, unlike Goodell who has acted as the bagman for the owners. Under Silver, there's been labor peace, player-friendly free agency, an avoidance of scandal, solid broadcast deals and continued inroads abroad. He's not directly responsible for all of that, but he hasn't upset an applecart that didn't need wholesale adjustment. I tend to think of him in terms of a referee. If Silver barely registers, it's probably a good thing.

Yea, that is how the league is supposed to be. 4-5 teams with a reasonable chance to win it all in a given year. I don't think Silver should get any credit for how wide open the league is this year though. If Kawhi goes to the Lakers, the Lakers are the overwhelming favorite this year.

The players are in charge of how much parity there is in the league. Maybe Durant making a fool of himself will teach the other players a lesson. Hopefully future generations will be better stewards of the league.
