Re: Celtics General Offseason Thread Pt 11: Kanter believe you thought of former player
Thing is, Kyrie wasn't the only person on the team with personal trauma. For example, Marcus Smart's mom died like two weeks before training camp started. Everybody has a personal life outside of basketball. And I completely understand that everybody deals with grief differently, but I can't get down with using that as an excuse to justify being a bad teammate.
Now I don't hate Kyrie at all. If I was in the arena for his return game I personally wouldn't boo him. He fulfilled his contractual obligations to this team and had every right to move on. But let's call a spade a spade.

Re: Celtics General Offseason Thread Pt 11: Kanter believe you thought of former player
Grief/depression and mental health make sense.. but if he wasn’t talking about it, I wonder if our FO had it on their radar as a possibility. They make an effort in that respect, but I can see them thinking his “moodiness” was all about circumstances and overlooking the role of grief.
I’m not unbiased as a fan, though - I have a mental health condition, I’m very receptive to that as an explanation, but somehow it still rings false to me, like he’s trying to get away with skipping school or rescheduling a test.
It’ll be interesting to see if he can progress where it matters, playing like a smart teammate and not just spamming trick moves like he’s playing NBA 2K.
From a team building perspective.. I mean, how much older is the group he’s getting in Brooklyn? It’s like he’s recreated the same situation - an older big (Horford is better than Jordan) and a broken wing (Durant is better than Hayward but older), plus a bunch of young guys, including one who plays the same position he does.

Re: Celtics General Offseason Thread Pt 11: Kanter believe you thought of former player
It’s a daily struggle for me to keep my **** together, I’m not qualified to speak on how much or how little something affects someone else. If it is mental illness (depression in this case) then at least SOME things have changed and the stigma is SLOWLY being lifted, he can and should get help for it. If he’s just using it as an excuse then that’s also a problem and he needs to get help for that too.
I hope he’s being truthful and it helps others. I’m not sure people realize how much more it is stigmatized in the black community. I hope he talks about it more because, like Dooling coming forward a few years back, mental illness is rarely discussed amongst the black community (athletes/men). If he got the help he needed, hopefully he’ll lead others to get the help they need.
At the end of the day, its just bball, I sports “hate” a lot of people but on issues like this I can’t drag someone when I don’t really know whats up.

Re: Celtics General Offseason Thread Pt 11: Kanter believe you thought of former player
Now, back to CELTICS!! I love seeing snippets of our guys playing together but when are we going to be allowed to see a lot more stuff during the off season??? Too many cameras for all this stuff to not be more available to us!!! I’d pay a little extra for workouts/scrimmages, all types of stuff athletes do throughout the offseason. I don’t want to see people i dont care about though, I’d pay not to see LBJ!
I know we already get them half a year and they need a break but I'm not asking for 24/7 access, I just want work related info/videos!! Please? ;D
If it wasn’t for JB and Enes types, Cs fans would get little to none of that. Time to step up your game other guys, MARKET yourselves more!!! I don’t mean sexy cologne marketing either (dead)!!

I don’t buy it one bit. It’s one thing to have mental health problems, and to come out with it, like what derozan and Love did, which is very courageous. Kyrie looks like someone trying to come up with reasons to justify his jack ass attitude towards the team and teammates. The way he conducted interviews, he looks like someone who is so full of himself. I could be wrong though, and i hope he gets help if he indeed has mental problems/depression.

A lot of the team mentally checked out about halfway through last season and after Game 2 of the Bucks series essentially everyone bar Jaylen Brown and maybe Marcus had.
It is what it is. The season was a **** show, but let’s just move on and forget all about it.

This thread lasted more than two months and might not even make 100 pages before season starts.
That's it. That's my post, not intended to pad my post count to overtake Bagley and Triple7 on the WoS.

That’s letting Mr. “Just waiting for the playoffs” off waaayyy too easy. He deserves to be crapped on, and hard, on however many threads we need, until everyone’s had a chance to get it out of their system. We hitched our wagons to that guy and he’s gaaaaaaarbage. I have never seen a Celtic quit on his team in the playoffs like that, or be such an absolute dick to his teammates throughout a full regular season. And he did both after making a sweet ad with his dad and telling the world Boston’s the place to be?
Sorry his grandfather passed. Gosh if only he had a relationship with his dad to help him through that oh wait AD TIME.
I tried to watch the clip of this and made it through about fifteen seconds and was like good lord I’m never listening to this guy again unless they pay me to. Sounds like a kid explaining why he didn’t do his homework. STFU Kyrie and also GTFO and also HFPWCODAATYD (Have Fun Playing With Crippled Old Durant And Another Team You’ll Destroy).

As the Ringer points out, next summer will have a fairly weak FA crop, assuming Anthony Davis stays with the Lakers. So Jaylen rolling the dice now makes some sense for him, more's the pity. Hayward will likely also have some choices.

As for Kyrie, the guy can't or won't string together a logical or credible argument for ... well, for anything. The Flat Earth bit was no anomaly. I get that his priorities changed as he reflected on his grandfather's death, but I don't take seriously anything he said in any more detail than that.

Yup, if Jaylen can have a semi decent season and can average 15-16 pts on .450-.460 from the field, he has a good shot at getting 25-28 mils a year.
Good assessment:
PLO wrote:Tatum played OK - took advantage of a few mismatches - decent on the defensive end. He is what we thought he was going into the season - a technically very proficient player operating close to his career ceiling as a rookie.

A 27yo's excuse of grief over his grandfather's death having driven his poor professional behavior almost a year later is appalling. Especially given that he always has been a spoiled and self-absorbed turd. Remember, he stopped talking to his teammates through the postseason before he demanded a trade. Does he suffer from long-term depression, which is an entirely different situation? Possibly, but IMO doubtful given his clear narcissistic tendencies, as that isn't the usual profile of a narcissist. Also, given not only his basketball success, but also his film career at the same time, it is fair to suggest that in sum he has been a high-level performer overall.

We are happy that Irving is gone, Irving is happy he's gone, and Brooklyn fans are happy he's gone there. Happiness all around.
Not a long time from now though, only one of those three groups will still be happy. I'm glad I'm part of that group.

Kyrie's problems last year were not off the court or in the locker room. His problems were on the court. On offense he was a selfish ball stopper who set out to prove on too many possessions that he has the best handles in the league. On defense he'd show some false hustle on a play or two and then disappear. He made his teammates worse, not better.
He's the Nets' problem now. I hope he's happier there.

Tatum and Kanter are at the BC-Wake Forest game, shooting shirts into the crowd.
Looked to be having a lot of fun. And yeah Tatum is clearly a bit bulkier.
