If the Lakers have a really good season, AD is very likely to resign.

If the Lakers have a really bad season, why would AD stay?

I feel like when he got there he realized first hand what hes gotten into, and it will take a title or finals appearance for him to stay.

That has always been the case though. The plan was always for the Lakers to make it to the Finals in LeBron's 2nd year in LA. The idea is that the Lakers would win a ring by LeBron's 3rd year.

So Davis chose the Lakers being fully aware of this plan. That's why the Lakers loaded up on vets. This is absolutely a Finals run.

He's getting maxed no matter what, why commit now?

Is this supposed to be some kind of indictment against him? He hasn't even played a single game for the Lakers, yet some are expecting some kind of loyalty out of him?

Depends on their goal. Whichever way he answers they get a story, so technically it actually works for them.

A lot is on the Lakers by not getting any sort of guarantee when they did the trade but he could have framed it differently and said something like:

"Plans can always change but definitely I plan on staying on the Lakers beyond this year" instead he wants the whole world to know he plans to test FA. That is by design he is playing the wait and see game

Wrong.

AD stays if he likes the team’s direction.
AD leaves if it death spirals into a circus.

He demanded a trade to the Lakers and only the Lakers. He's not going anywhere and the Lakers know it.

He wants to be courted in FA and have his ego stroked, but he'll re-sign with the Lakers.

Things would have to go unexpectedly, and horrifically bad for him to leave IMO.

Honestly, a weak one. There are several other teams in the west that have better built rosters, more 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th options that count after 82 games. While some think LeBron's load management and AD's hangnail issues are not a thing in the regular season...well, have fun fighting for the 7th seed and see how that goes.

Because he's only 26 years old, and there are many, many more seasons ahead than just this upcoming one.

Because he's now the face of the franchise of the marquee team of the most popular sports league on Earth.

Because he owns a mansion in a place where it's 75 degrees and sunny every day of the year, with a million things to do around him, and unlimited marketing opportunities.

Yeah, why would he stay?

Which also speaks to the pointlessness of these conferences. He already had one when he signed, iirc?l. Nothing changed since then. Also sports journalism in general is just really dumb imo.

LeBron doesnt do load management. If LeBron stays healthy they will make the playoffs even if AD never plays.

The playoffs are just about your first 2 options and the Lakers have, by far, the best two.

This team is built for this year. An aging Lebron and bunch of guys on short deals. If Lebron takes a step back, the chemistry is bad and if the Lakers miss the playoffs or are an early exit... the noise on AD not being a winning player is going to be deafening. AD cam to the Lakers to set himself up as a contender throughout his prime. If they're bad THIS year, they'll have a very difficult time fixing that. They traded all their assets to his old team. If the Lakers look good and are a legit contender, I think AD is likely to stay. A bad season would be a nightmare scenario for Lebron, AD and the Lakers.

To me might as well roll the dice if your the Lakers. They were going nowhere, when is the last time they were even in the playoffs? At least now they have a punchers chance, I say roll the dice - go big or go home and put your chips in with AD this year, see what happens
