Should Eli make the HOF?

Simple question - poll included.

I'm firmly on the fence.

I’d say no. He just was never that great, he was above average for a few years and was outright mediocre or bad the rest of the time. His claim to fame are two game winning drives in the SB...but that doesn’t mean your entire career is worthy of the HOF when it was just so...whatever.

Not to mention the fact that in the 2007 run, on that same drive that won them the game, he threw a pass right at Asante Samuel who just dropped it. Samuel makes that INT, and history completely changes: Patriots go undefeated and are the GOAT team, and Eli’s legend never exists. It’s funny how a pure stroke of luck allowed Eli another chance to make something great happen, which just goes to show that random moments don’t make someone worthy of the HOF.

I personally wouldn’t vote him in, but I can see arguments based on his longevity and those memorable postseason runs. At the end of the day those two Superbowl MVP's are gonna be hard to overlook.

8th in TDs, 7th in yards and has 2 Superbowls. Seems like yes. Eli is not Joe Flacco with two rings, he has had an easily better career than Flacco even if you disregard the Superbowls with better peak seasons and better longevity.

That’s kind of where I’m at also.

The yards/touchdowns/games is hardly convincing when there are seven current quarterbacks who either are already ahead of him or who likely will have passed him by the time Eli a candidate. To say nothing of early likely hall-of-fame quarterbacks in Mahomes and Wilson. If Stafford is pretty much doomed because of the lack of playoff success and lack of top five perception, then the argument for Eli is pretty obviously, as it has always been, a matter of those two Super Bowl runs.

People like to talk about the receiver and running back backlog, but there is also going to be one for quarterbacks. Brady, Brees, and Rodgers are first-ballot. Roethlisberger was a better regular season quarterback and also has two championships. Matt Ryan is a better regular season quarterback, and on average a better postseason quarterback, and he has an MVP via leading one of the all-time best offences. Rivers has been better basically every year except for 2011-12, but he plays for a cursed/dumb organisation (more cursed than dumb) and accordingly lacks postseason success. And while voters are having those debates, Mahomes and Wilson will suddenly be on the horizon.

I think ultimately two Super Bowl MVPs will prove too much to ignore, but that is it. If that award goes to someone on New York’s defence in 2007, it is not even a question. But it went to him because an interception was dropped and an impossible pass was caught, and so he probably goes to the hall of fame. Yay...

Depends on how people vote. Because he's in NY and on two Super Bowl teams, he will be. Joe Namath didn't have an impressive career at all, but everyone knows who he is because he won a Super Bowl in a HUGE upset...probably bigger than the Giants one simply because everyone thought the AFL was such a inferior league to the NFL. The spread in that game was 17.5 as opposed to the 13.5 Pats/Giants spread in 2008.

Eli has never been one of the top QBs in the NFL in his era. He's just had some longevity and a decent line at times.

Rivers was just mentioned. Now he had to sit 2 years behind Brees so Manning got a 2 year head start so is slightly ahead in yards, but look at passer rating, completion %, tds, ints, yards per attempt, etc....Rivers pretty handily beats him across the board. Do people feel Rivers should be in the hall of fame?

Rings are always a big argument, moreso in the NBA, which I always think is focused on too much by many for individual rankings, but in football it should be focused on less due to it being so much more of a team sport, with so many more players, and two sides of the ball. You should be one of the best at your position ever, the at least one of the best in an era.

Now in cases with guys like Jordan and Brady where they got a bunch of rings, or a bunch in a very short time (Brady kind of in two shorter stretches 2001-2004 and 2014-2018) it holds more weight, or of course winning them in the vast majority of years you even played (Russell).

But the ring argument comes into play more when you are the clear cut best player on your team. Eli probably wasn't even close. Strahan probably was, and probably others on each team.

The Giants won in 2008 because of their defense. Eli has like 3,300 yards with 23 tds and 20 ints. Eli was better the year of his 2nd SB win but only led the team to a 9-7 record (which obviously doesn't matter if you win the SB but they basically just had a hot playoff run).

I think so yes. 2 Superbowls is it and all. Plus his longevity and he's on the list in certain categories. You can say he's lucky or whatever but at the end of the day, I don't think you get lucky twice. I think Ben is a HOF so why not Eli? Is RIvers a HOF?

I've always thought Rivers was the best QB of the three, though Ben had some great seasons, but may have had better receivers mostly. Keenan Allen has been great, but he was out with injury for a couple of seasons. Rivers has done well with whatever receivers he has to work with. Just a couple weeks ago, he was without Hunter Henry, Mike Williams and Travis Benjamin, 3 starters and down to a 2nd string rb with Gordon out (though personally I like Ekeler better) but Justin Jackson, who is solid was out too...so he was working with 2nd stringers and some rookies and did very well.

But he probably doesn't make it unless he gets a ring, and with a couple of early losses this year along with injuries to all those offensive guys, their best OL, and their best defensive player in Derwin James, along with Melvin Ingram being out, and James' backup in Adrian Phillips.

They will be hard pressed to make the playoffs already having 3 losses and still having GB, Chicago, Minnesota, KC twice, Oakland twice, a game in Denver, and Jacksonville, they really can't afford more than 2 more losses, and maybe 3 with Indy and Buffalo playing so well. But he has gone on runs down the stretch, and Henry may be back soon. If their team was completely healthy they'd be a SB contender...maybe next year but they have some bad breaks in games as well as well as kicking problems...their kicker has also been out (after they finally found a good one) and their punter who was filling in nicely, hurt his plant foot two weeks ago so they had to sign a rookie or 2nd year guy this past week.

I've always thought Rivers was the best QB of the three

Ben>Rivers>Eli

Rivers has surpassed Ben now (Better QB at the moment). But, Ben has had the better career & obviously more successful imho. If Rivers had more postseason success, then I think you could make more of a case for him. But without a Superbowl, I don't think he's HOF worthy. Sorry man.

Eli has had too many mediocre to poor seasons the last handful of years to make the HOF in my eyes. Longevity should count.

Better teams and a championship so you can make the argument. Kind of like putting Tony Parker ahead of Chris Paul.

Ben has 400 more yards but started two seasons earlier. Rivers has a higher passer rating, more tds, fewer interception. Overall he has been the better QB, just hasn't been on as strong of teams or with as good of coaches aside from Schottenheimer, who they were dumb to let go after a 14-2 season for Norv Turner. He probably would have won a SB had they kept Marty.

Yea Rivers isn't getting any younger. His best chance to win was last year IMO, I really thought they had a chance especially after dominating my team the Ravens. That year they went 14-2 was another chance he had but he screwed it up. There has been many years his team been mediocre and he has not made the playoffs. I think he still gets in because he's been a very good QB for many years, but I just think Eli is ahead of him just off the TWO superbowls even though he hasn't had the better stats than Rivers. Ben is definitely in.
