Excellent work by Silver fixing something that is completely irrelevant to most people.
I mean... What they had in place was pretty damn stupid, even if everyone got used to it, and it's an extremely easily fixed thing. Feels like a pretty sensible decision to me.
If knowing exactly how tall an existing NBA player is, changes how you see him or evaluate him, if it's an inch or two different.... that's pretty weird. It's easily fixed but it's incredibly inconsequential. Especially given the other issues facing the NBA that they aren't dealing with. And no, I don't want to talk about them here.
Just because it's irrelevant to you it doesn't mean it's irrelevant to everyone. Height matter more in basketball than most sports so keeping accurate heights is a no brainer and surprised it wasn't done sooner. Nothing wrong with getting facts straight.
Sporting stats & metrics are increasingly being leveraged, analyzed, sliced and diced these days with companies making money off sports data - for example NBA 2K as well as the aforementioned sports betting.
It probably took the NBA less time to make this decision than it does some of you whining about its irrelevancy.
