Not as much as I would have liked with the curious lineup and rotation decisions made by 2 different HCs. Losing KP still bothers me but...whatever. It's time to see what we do have. It all starts later today!! Let the board come back to life!!! Let's go Knicks!

I, for one, am eagerly awaiting hot takes and forum stances based on cell phone video from camp, taken from 100 feet away, and lasting no more than 10 seconds.

Frank is really looking aggressive!
RJ is the MAN!
Randle looks in midseason form!
Trier is so dreamy! (Shammgod)
etc

I was admittedly very defiant as a fan. It sucks seeing your team get trashed left and right. I kept trying to convince myself this roster can somehow win 40 something games if things went well and fell into place.

But honestly and realistically, it's a high 20s, low 30s win team at best. There are just too many question marks on the team. And the chances of all those questions ending up with positive answers and solutions are slim to none. At best, I just hope one of these kids show Super Star potential. Either RJ or Smith Jr. need to show a glimpse of consistent Super Star ability and impact. And I also hope we can somehow make a trade mid-season for a young budding Super Star.

I'm excited about media day as a milestone that the season will begin in a few weeks, but media day itself doesn't thrill me at all, in and of itself. It's just pap and hype.

Which is fine, but I've never really paid attention after watching one or two.

It pretty much is all fluff where everyone is in the best shape of their lives and ready to breakout with a new jumper, more range, better handle or some post moves (90% of the time we never see it). But as you mentioned its a reminder that the season is coming up soon. It drums up discussions and stories and gets things going again. Same...mostly excited for the season to start soon.

I do still like media day even if it's mostly fluff.

I'm not convinced it's a 40 win playoff team, nor am I convinced it's a low 30's win team either.

I get it lacks top end talent, particularly that "elite" player, but it has a lot of what I would call "quality depth".

I'm not going to rehash any arguments around "too many wings" or "too many PF's". Whatever. Basically, there are 3 decent players per position, and then a 4th at PF and SG. And people confuse some the fact that some of the SF's and C's could see time at PF, and start a narrative that the team has 7 PF's and no SF or something. Whatever.

A team with middling talent that EXECUTES on offense and defense should be winning mid 30's and up, I think. Lack of top end talent should cap it low 40's.

Will that happen? Who knows.

I know some of the questions are how the more youthful players will progress, what is RJ and what about Fiz. Fiz is the biggest question mark. So that's fair.

The team is young but some of that youth is going into it's 3rd year. The vets are decent players.

There are question marks, but to me, the mainly revolve around the coach. Which even that may not be fair, as there may have been tanking going on. But within 20 games, it should be clear if Fiz has the goods or not.

What I wanted to say, and why it applies to Fiz, is that there are enough NBA games that come down to a swing of a few baskets.
Coaching and execution might make that difference and that swing of 10 games

Well, the lack of Mudiay is obviously a step in the right direction and Knox may not start but (likely) starting a rookie won't help. Payton, or obviously Frank, would improve that statistic. The latter is not likely.

I'm hoping RJ at least looks like he's sentient about where to go.

Defensive awareness is also not Randle's strength, but Payton was pretty good about being vocal on defense and putting people in the right position last year. That might be a reason why Payton gets the nod to start over Smith.

Payton is the worst defensive PG on the team. He’s probably carried this misplaced reputation as a defender, because he’s offensively inept. If that’s what folks are expecting, they’re in for a surprise.

In the ensuing possession, Payton didn’t necessarily effect the outcome of the play, but watch this clip a few times and appreciate his level of defensive awareness to say that of Julius Randle, who was in precisely the same location but never seemed to react until the ball had been loose for nearly two seconds.

Payton quickly recognized Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday might need a little help in covering Marc Gasol and Mike Conley Jr. off the ball on the strong side — look at how Elf was entirely focused on that part of the floor by literally facing it as opposed to Randle, who is stealing glances out of the corner of his eye. Had Conley’s pass connected with Gasol cleanly, Payton, who had been guarding an assignment furtherest from the action, was already in motion to get into position first and try and impede the gifted center.

It was a shortened year for Payton last year, I’m open minded about what he might be able to contribute, especially when our other options are pretty inexperienced.

The only way I see this team winning 40+ and making the Playoffs.

1. Julius Randle needs to play like an All-Star and have an Amar'e 2010 type impact.
2. RJ Barrett needs to be neck and neck with Zion and challenge for ROY.
3. Dennis Smith Jr. needs to show glimpses of All-Star ability and be consistent.
4. Kevin Knox needs to make a Sophomore jump and shoot and defend a lot better.
5. Mitch Robinson needs to stay out of foul trouble and play 30+ mpg.
6. Trier needs to continue to develop his game and show he is more than just an Iso gunner off the bench.

I'm not concerned at all about the vets like Morris, Payton, Gibson, Portis and Ellington. We know what they are.

I know I'm in the minority but Ntilikina's FIBA play did nothing for me. I still think he is an awful player and will be outplayed by better players in camp and won't be in the rotation and out of the league once his deal is up. I liked what I saw from Iggy in Summer League but I'm not looking at him to make an impact right away. It would be great though if we can hit on a 2nd Rounder for a second year in a row.

Yeah i lean that way but i could see a scenario where if the Knicks win sub 25 games and it's not due to injury that Perry tries to buy himself some more time by firing Fiz and essentially scapegoating him. But yeah still think it's likely that Perry and Fiz are a package deal and that 2 years is too quick to have the hook on the whole thing especially with how young the roster is outside of a few vets.

If we get to scapegoat time, I think it will be during Fiz's final year. It allows us to make one more pitch to top FA's with stable management and it doesn't put Perry in the position of making Dolan pay for 2 coaches again.

If this season is a major flop though, then the seat will get very hot.
