1) Hand Injury to start season that lasted over a month)
2) Having role, yet again jerked around
3) Hayward returning
4) Irving effect and lockerroom turmoil
Jaylen, towards the end of season, was one of the most consistent performers on the team.
You can make all the excuses in the world as to why he underperformed last year, but the reality is he underperformed. If you don't want to sell him for pennies on the dollars, but you can't just move the goalposts to reestablish value.
Sure. Looking at raw statistics over the entire year he did.
Looking deeper suggests he didn't. Especially when looking at his potential value in regards to a trade.

His numbers as a whole were nearly identical to the year prior. That's plateauing.

You can talk down his value, but unless Coby White looks like a star you don’t need, I can’t see Brown to Chicago without Carter Jr. or LaVine coming back.

You're going to be hard pressed to say that Jaylen Brown the player is more valuable than WCJ when you ignore contracts, but as soon as you bring in contracts into the equation then it's not even a discussion. WCJ is more valuable than Jaylen Brown.

Re: Jaylen Brown to Bulls
Brown's value is likely lower now than it has ever been, and that's mostly because of his contract status. As a RFA is a below average FA class, he's a candidate to get overpaid (max or close to it) based on potential. But in terms of on court production, he hasn't shown he's anything more than an above average starter who is very good defensively but average to below average on offense.
The hardest position in the league to be in as an organization is when you have a young guy you like that the market will overpay based on potential. Those contracts typically don't work out.

Re: Jaylen Brown to Bulls
Would anyone do Jaylen for Coby White, if it came down to it? As a Boston fan, even though White is much higher risk, his size and combo guard flexibility might have me on board

.....................2019-20...........2020-21...........2021-22...........2022-23...........
Jaylen Brown...$6,534,829.......................................................................
Coby White.....$5,307,120.......$5,572,680.......$5,837,760 (RO).....$7,413,955 (RO)
RO = Rookie Option
Would anyone do Jaylen for Coby White, if it came down to it?
What else is Boston adding to the trade?

Then I wouldn't expect the Chicago FO being interested in giving up White (cost controlled 4 seasons) for Brown (cost controlled 1 season).

If Brown was being traded for a player with an expiring contract and a 2020 first, what slot/placement would the 2020 first need to be to be considered a fair trade?

There were a lot of rumors before this year's draft that teams were interested in Jaylen Brown - he was linked to the Knicks at 3 and the Cavs at 5 (Boston supposedly wanted Darius Garland). 7/Coby White would've been low value. Nothing has really changed since then.. he has a lot of fans around the league.
Trading firsts is tough now because the lotto results are going to be so variable - you'd need to have the worst record in the league to offer a guaranteed top 6 pick.
IMO Carter Jr. would be great value for Brown, more than he can fetch right now - would be an overpay from the Bulls. Coby White would be an underpay. Kris Dunn? ...
The only other scenario I can imagine would be something with Jaylen and Gordon Hayward to Chicago, Otto Porter and Lavine to Boston..

I wouldn't as a Bulls, I'd rather take the punt on White's development.

For the 2020 draft, the expectation would be at least a mid lottery pick?

Of course not. Coby White is just starting his contract, Brown is finishing is and will likely be overpaid in a year.
There would have to be at least a first rounder added from Boston
