He was basically talking glowingly about him and saying that he had almost forgotten just how good he was when training with him this summer. Isaac was most likely around Fultz as much as anyone else this offseason with how often both of them were around the organization training so I put more weight into his response than other players that said they hadn't been around him.

It's going to be a big month for Fultz. Clifford wouldn't rule out the possibility of him starting, so if he shows out and is playing as well as some of the people around the team are saying I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest at this point to see it.
I think JI & Ross had the most genuine remarks about Kelle to hype me up. I'm excited to see him.

So... 14/4/5 too much to ask if he is starting? Hard to temper expectations now... Not gonna lie, I was okay if he needed to sit out longer to get right but with all this talk, it’s hard for me to not think of the guy that was the nearly unanimous #1 pick in mock drafts.

I’m still tempering expectations because I think he’ll need some time considering he’s only played 33 games, but there’s nothing wrong with people getting hyped and imo 14/4/5 is realistic. It would suck if he crashed and burned but I’d get over it quick considering we gave up practically nothing for him.

I think it's a little too much to ask *this* season because even if Fultz ends up starting, I still see Augustin playing 20 to 25 minutes per game which would in turn limit Fultz to 20-25 minutes per game as well.

If DJ were to get injured and Fultz were to play "normal" starter minutes, like 30 to 34 a night, I think 14/4/5 is extremely possible.

His career Per/36 is 13.5 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 5.9 APG and that was him playing with his issues.

"This [starting point guard spot] is for Markelle Fultz to lose. DJ [Augustin] is OK with being the backup or the starter. He's in position to do both. His true value is in his willingness to do both. … I spent some time with him [Fultz] this summer. He's healthy. He's ready to go. He's going to take the league by surprise. That's my MIP."

The closer we get to the season, the more it feels like this Caron Butler quote holds some weight to it.

True but if he’s truly 100% healthy, we might as well get him starting and used to the role early so that he’s comfortable with the starting unit by mid-season IMO. DJ is a pro and can handle the backup role while Fultz is a #1 pick with a ton of potential. If he looks good in preseason, I say we throw him in the starting lineup for the get-go. If he doesn’t look great in the preseason, we should then work him in slowly.

Expectations and excitement for this season are now crazy high for me. I might be irrational (though some may say that is my norm. lol)

I think we gonna see a lot 2 PG lineups with both Fultz & DJ. If Markelle starts & keeps his starting job, has a lot to do with his shot & if Isaac's 3P shot improved. If not, its probably better to bring him from the bench or with DJ because of spacing til he gets better.

I hope the game on Saturday is at least on Fox Sports Go.

It'll be interesting to see how the team dynamics and on-court chemistry changes if Markelle is healthy and becomes a starter.

It won't be (as of now). Spurs also wont be broadcasting it. Both fan bases are praying for a jumbotron feed.

I think they sometimes put them on Facebook live or something like that.

I'm hoping too.

The Preseason is the most frustrating time of the year. I change the Christmas song where it is the most wonderful time of the year to the most frustrating because not every game is on TV.

I think every game is usually on streams somewhere but it's a pain in the ass, and sometimes it's only the jumbotron feed. At least there's some video content but it's not great.

After going back and watching the Toronto series, it's just impossible not to get even more excited about Fultz. The sole thing that won us Game 1 in Toronto was our guard play. DJ consistently creating off the dribble and getting to the basket is what won us that game. MCW gave us huge minutes as well. It was too much to ask from both of them to give us that level of play throughout the course of a 7 game series though which is one of the main reasons we lost.

Fultz has that kind of ability though. Even without a shot, he has the natural ability to get to the basket and create for himself and others. He can take us to a new level. It remains to be seen if he does or not, but I'm very hopeful at this stage that he can.

Clifford on Fultz after practice 3

"How does Markelle look through three days so far?"

"Good. You know the thing I like about him, to be honest, is he takes the fundamental - you know this is the one time a year where you can actually do like some fundamental breakdowns, ya know? When we get going in the year, you can do a little bit. But he takes what you work on fundamentally and he immediately applies it when they play 5 on 5. It's a great trait to have. Most of the good older players are able to do that. But I mean he's very, very bright."
