Wizards Training Camp 2019

Post#1 » by payitforward » Wed Oct 2, 2019 12:03 am

Training camp started today. Here's what I've got:

Roster: https://www.nba.com/wizards/wizards-announce-2019-training-camp-roster
Brad post-practice video: https://www.nba.com/wizards/bradley-beal-post-practice-10-01-19
Whoever put this video together edited out the questions Brad was being asked -- you have to figure out what he's responding to, who he's referring to. It's not always easy!! :)

Actually, this same page has links to a ton of other videos from Day 1 & the most recent days as well. Lots of good stuff!

I really really liked Brad's interviews on media day & today. I thought IT was terrific as well. Loved John's interview as well, especially when he talked about how fast an NBA career goes by: "I'm going into my 10th year, & I feel like I was drafted 5 minutes ago!" :)

From Beal's interview, it really sounds like they're going to run a system exactly how doclinkin predicted. He even referenced that one of their strengths is that they have a lot of bigs who can shoot and a lot of wings who can attack the rim. It sounds like they're going to play a lot of 5-out with a lot of ball movement, a fast pace, and minimal dribbling.

Of course, at this time of the season, everyone talks about trying to play faster and sharing the ball, so we'll have to wait and see.

That system plays well with the Rui that I watched at Gonzaga - it's going to open up the lane for him go hard to the hoop - like a poor-man's Giannis. Considering Giannis was the regular season MVP, being a poor-man's Giannis is just fine.

Ditto. Only, I'm so old I keep seeing him as one of my children (actually, truth be told... "grandchildren" would work too! -- tho I don't actually have any his age, I could).

Sorry, BB is already taken. He and I have been an item since his rookie season. But you guys know that. :D

Then again...welcome to the club!

It's just great to see a kid grow into a man the way he has. Really confident, but well-grounded, solid values, & modest too.

Quite a good video interview with Ish Smith post-practice yesterday. Good things to say about Bryant & Hachimura.

These interviews do drive you a little nuts -- they cut all the questions, so you just get the answers; it can take a minute to figure out what a guy is actually talking about!

Is this the projected starting lineup for the Wizards preseason opener:

Smith
Beal
Bertans
Hachimura
Bryant

?

I don't think so, no.

Smith, Beal, Brown, Bertans & Bryant seems more likely & would make more sense. For one thing, Bertans is not a 3. For another why ever would we throw Rui to the wolves in game 1?

The question was about the preseason opener. At the moment Troy Brown is injured, as is CJ Miles.

I suspect they'll start Justin Anderson at SF and Bertans at PF.

Oh duh... Sorry!

Justin Anderson was pretty good his first 3 seasons playing SF. Last year, for some reason, Atlanta moved him to PF. His numbers went way down. It'll be no surprise if he makes the team.
