Probably also wanted him to take a discount.
Of course he wasn't going to play last year without a new deal. Nobody in their right mind would take a chance at injury, to play the final year of a rookie deal. I said all year he wouldn't play, and of course he didn't.
Literally 5 minutes after free agency started he signed his extension with the Mavs.
It always has been and always be about the money.
He didn't leave. He got traded. So that's that.
Exactly! He didn't have the "option" or "right"- he was under contract...
It also didn't matter if he demanded a trade- we still had to authorize said trade...
KP gave NY the middle finger- we shipped his ass out of here before he knew what hit him![]()
END OF STORY!
Just so we're clear, you're saying we could have kept him? The trade is something the Knicks wanted to do, and are completely happy with it?

This guy might get more irrational hatred than Melo
The Luke / KP PnR should have happened in orange and blue. We had a stud to build around and we blew it.
Best of luck to him. I don't need to tear him down to build up the kids we have on our roster.

Spider-Man homecoming. The villain's name is Vulture. Immediately thought of this when you said Buzzardman is an evil villain name

So as Linsanity. But it just does not last long, and yes not longer than that of STAT.
Longer than STAT? Linsanity was 7 games.

Ha, that’s exactly what buzzardman does. Then he picks them up with that claw and drops them down in Dallas.

Re: KP's A Maverick And I Spoke It Into Existence
KP has always been more of an athlete than a basketball player to me. He's an incredible athlete, but with poor instincts and a very limited feel for the game offensively. And while there's no denying that he could be a winning player with his skillset, I think he's more suited to be a third option (maybe second down the line) on a contender. He's an inefficient scorer and a poor and unwilling passer. That's not a franchise player. His skillset is actually that of an elite role player, unless he improves dramatically in Dallas.
Things he's been good at:
- 3-point shooting (invaluable at his position)
- FT shooting
- Rim protection (the quality that matters most when it comes to bigs, and he's elite)
- Running in transition
Things he's been bad at (or below-average):
- Scoring efficiency
- Shot selection
- Finishing at the rim
- Passing (unselfishness, vision and accuracy)
- Overall basketball IQ on offense
- Rebounding
- Switching onto guards
- Durability (until he proves otherwise)
Playing next to Luka is the perfect situation for him, but we'll see if he's willing to give up his terrible midrange ISO jumpers and become a second banana. Because that's what it's gonna take for the Mavs to reach their potential. And he will need to play center, which should help his scoring efficiency.
I wish him well, as long as we get a lottery pick in 2021 and DSJ pans out.

Jstock12 wrote:KP looks shredded and will probably do really well on the court. However, the fact that he's 7'3 still remains. I don't have the stats, but I would guess 90% of 7'3+ guys that played in the NBA had injury riddled careers. And most of them weren't moving like KP does, which only aggravates the issue. Best of luck to KP and Doncic though, I think they can be a special duo barring injuries.
If all or even most of the mass is just upper body, won't that put even more strain on those legs

I predicted KP would wind up next to Luka but on another team, because that's the single most disappointing thing I could think of happening. So, of course, it happened.
Best to KP etc, but I'm just not up for having it in my face all year when attempting to enjoy what I think will be a decent team, not great, but I see the franchise headed in the right direction.
Also, won't do it here, but it got tiring discussing the 5 sides of the loose parameters of the KP situation, over did they just trade him, did he force his way out, was it a good deal, bad deal, decent deal all things considered, ok deal but reasonable hedge once thing where where they were at etc.
I mean, it's not like I wouldn't even, personally, go over some of that again, but I know what it's like on here. I'd rather not do it EVERY game thread. Or every day where KP or Randle outscore each other, or how the Mavs are doing in the standings vs the Knicks and so on.
It's painful enough. Knicks should have tanked for Donic. They didn't. They made a decision on KP, or he forced a decision that they then reacted to. All things considered, the Knicks were left in pretty good shape considering they lost MAYBE a franchise player. Or maybe he isn't. And that's also part of the debate, also given tons of keystrokes.
I mean, the Gallo/Chandler vs Melo thing went on for YEARS. I mean, the last vestiges of the argument still come up at times. Or Melo bashing going on for years.
Just trying to keep more of it here. For multiple reasons.
