TBH I’ll be less excited about this season with Elfrid starting. I just don’t see him as a long term piece. Give me 21 yr old DSJ and let’s see what he can develop into

That's the concern.
The Knicks are not going to wait that long. Just like Orlando didn't.
i'm not sure what the answer is though. you can't just pay guys and hope they break out. this is the normal course for guys who take a long time. if it doesn't happen during their rookie deal they probably won't still be on the team that drafted them. billups was a celtic, and i think was on the magic too before he hit with detroit. that's just what happens.
He got lucky.
i forgot all those stops. jesus. why did i think he played for orlando ? was there a draft day trade with orlando maybe ?
i'm not sure what you mean by got lucky. you don't think he was actually any good and was just a product of detroit's success as a team ? anyway, that's not the point. the point is what do you do ? you can't just pay them and hope for the best.

I'm super excited about having Taj around to mentor Mitch. Exactly the type of guy you want rubbing off on MItch. Teaching him little tricks on D especially with his hands which we know Mitch struggles with and coming up under Thibs you know Taj knows how to communicate and yell on D
Taj has a good post up game, excellent footwork and is an underrated passer. His jumper isn't bad either. He's perfect to mentor Mitch.

there's also more pressure because he was the main piece returned in the kp trade. it might not be fair to him but the trade looks a lot better if he breaks out.
He was in the physical sense but ultimately it was the cap space that was the main factor so technically the pressure should also go to Julius Randle. He's also playing KPs position
that's not how it works though, people are not gonna think that way. if kp becomes a star and dennis and these picks amount to nothing, the narrative will be we traded kp for nothing.
That's not the right way to look at it. If people want to evaluate the trade then do it properly as a whole

No, I mean he got lucky that he kept getting chances until Detroit. He didn't really show signs of life until his final year in Minny, and even then, I think it was just enough for Detroit to give him the MLE.

I’m kinda in disagreement with the whole prioritizing “player development” over playing the established vets thinking.
Player development = tanking, which is a useless formula with draft odds now.
We should be chasing wins, and following the Nets formula of developing a team that’s competitive and improving as opposed to throwing minutes at kids who don’t have the experience. The kids will eventually develop and the cream will rise to the top, but We shouldn’t force it at the expense of showing significant improvement as an organization.

He got his ass kicked by a couple of Ruskies who were celebrating the anniversary of their invasion of Latvia. And I believe that wa after his boxing lessons. Remember him posting those videos?

what you're saying is not really even true though. they could have paid kp and got randle, there was money for both. you're twisting the truth a bit because it sounds better than saying we used the money on taj gibson & bobby portis.

It is tough, and probably a risk either way. I think you need to factor in a lot of things and evaluate everyone a little differently (cost to keep, value in a trade, how good you think the player can be, whether he makes sense on the team, future flexibility, etc).
Overall, I guess the most important thing is if you believe in the guy or not.
I prefer to lean towards trying to keep young players. It's pretty crazy how we havent really kept anyone long term from the draft since Charlie Ward. (maybe David Lee too)

They weren't signing Randle with KP and Mitch here. Losing KP left a void at that starting spot. Randle was the main target and its pretty obvious that he was brought in to replace KP

they weren't gonna have all 3 but you can't say we got the cap space for randle as part of the trade. the cap space already existed.

How many more videos of interviews with players saying the same worn out platitudes can we get? Plenty I guess.....
