Hurd's earliest possible return date would be @ Ravens.

@ Saints
vs. Falcons
vs. Rams
@ Seahawks

I don't see him practicing much during the year, would be surprised if he doesn't play after 2 weeks off

Is Ford going to hold up the whole season?

Coming off a bye week and he can't practice regularly?

Not going to get any better as he gets closer to 30.

Dee Ford plans to hold off on surgery until after the season and play through knee tendonitis

Well, that combines for a really crappy day (not counting Matthews as I actually wanted him to be on the team week 1).

Hurd is one of my favorite players on the team. Liked him better than Deebo (who is also on my post-Shanahan keep players list). So is Verrett but that one doesn't hurt quite as bad because it was kind of expected.

And Dontae Johnson - oy! I don't even want to go there again.

Ugh. Verrett, man. Dude is more fragile than Ward. Good thing we didn't, you know, draft a CB before round six.

And only if Taylor doesn't come back first.

Good that we've learned a lesson from moving Ward all over the defensive backfield.

Aww. That's sweet.

I'm a little less willing to believe in the honesty of pro' athletes. Pretty sure almost every good player in the league is on the juice.

And one that scares me. I still contend they need to find his replacement.

Haha. Fair enough. I should clarify: I don't see any reason to believe he started using steroids this year. I don't see a tremendous jump in his performance. I attribute his success more to his health and the improved play of those around him.

Armstead, if you believe PFF stats, played well last year. I think he is building on what he had done last year. He lost the first couple of years because of injury but seems to be getting better with playing time.

How high would fans be willing to go to extend him?

Looking beyond this year, as it stands right now, I would be against locking him up if he's talking $13-$15M/year. That puts him around 10-15 at his position (i.e. Clowney, Griffen, Hunter, Dunlap, Graham)

That's where the averages start to dip from there by a bit (i.e. Tuitt, Houston, Brockers, Hughes, Heyward, Wolfe, Ansah).

After that you're getting into $8M/year guys (where Nick Bosa already sits).

When I think about it, I'm not sure I'd take Armstead over any of those guys. And some of those guys are also scheduled to be FAs - Clowney, Griffen, Wolfe, and Ansah off the top of my head.

I suppose you could say that my fear of Armstead as a draft prospect probably factors in to my weariness to extend him. I was the guy that said his FLOOR was a guy that could find himself out of the league in 3 years if he were to hit it. (I also projected a very low ceiling for a top 20 pick, too). You can say I haven't exactly been accurate with his floor, though I don't look that ridiculous with his ceiling so far either.

Armstead rounding into more of a team leader, good community guy type doesn't really move me in this case either. He doesn't do enough on the field for me right now for the off-the-field stuff to do anything for me either (and I'm not totally dismissive of those things like some people on here have been).

Where do people expect him to come in at on his next extension? Do you think he may get top 15 money? Top 20? Top 25/barely starting caliber money?

My last argument for why I'd be against it is I'd rather invest that money in different spots on this team that need upgrading more. I'm not overwhelmed by the expected class this year, and many of the positions that are driving me crazy on this team will likely have to wait beyond the next FA/draft class (Thanks to stupid FA spending and non-spending in previous FA/draft classes).
