Why don't we just cut Ian Mahinmi? It costs us nothing...

I do not think we are looking for $30m of new players, i.e. veterans to make another pointless run. Maybe if we were 100% certain that Wall would come back as good a player, or better, than he was. Probably not even in that case.

This team is rebuilding. It's not "one tank year & back to how great it was." Do I need to remind anyone: it wasn't great.

I recall Tommy saying "we are going to build this right, patiently." There is no contending team in our near future. Wall is not good enough. Beal is not good enough. No one we add will make that kind of difference. &, no, Giannis is not coming here.

I've been arguing the same point. They are not going to trade Ian and take on longer $ for likely a marginal player at best. Cut your losses and get the roster spot!

There is more to gain in cutting him, at this point. Eat the money, and give someone else a chance. Sorry but Ian is not part of the future.

We're eating the $$ whatever we do. The only cost to cutting Ian is the salary for the extra player we keep.

Right now, we have 13 guaranteed salaries, & I also think it's a given we'll keep Justin Robinson. That leaves either 1 or 2 roster spots depending on whether we get the exception for Wall.

Until TC started we'd been discussing the roster as if -- with no exception & keeping Mahinmi -- we'd have to decide between Jordan McRae & Jemerrio Jones for that last spot. Cutting Mahinmi would allow us to keep both of them.

But, more recently, things have changed somewhat: we have given unguaranteed contracts to both Justin Anderson & Chris Chiozza. I would not be surprised if there's some impetus to add Anderson to the roster. If we do, then -- again, with Mahinmi & without the exception -- we'd have to cut both Jones & McRae.

If we cut Mahinmi & we do get the exception (allowing us a 16 player roster) we can also keep Justin Anderson. We'd still be under the tax.

I have no issurs cutting Ian. I do expect bith Anderson and Chiozza won't make the team but having an extra spot for players that can actually play seema like a decent idea in general. That said, fewer players that can play will mean more opportunities for the likes of Jones, Bonga, etc. And yes, even fewer Cs as it probably means the team pushes players up a position with Bertans playing some C, Jones at PF and other guys get more chances.
