So i get face guarding isnt a penalty. But when you stop the WR from going back to the ball. Thats a clear PI right?

Sort of. Defender is allowed some space, but I think the fact that he got there early is what matters

It's weird that face guarding isn't considered PI because 99% of the time the receiver is coming back for the ball and the guy who is face guarding ends up interfering and getting called for it anyways.
