What's does it matter? Whether it's the everyday citizens or that Winnie the Pooh lookin dictator and his government, they can both **** off. The NBA should show their opinion zero respect. An American, endowed with the freedom of speech by the government where he resides, expressed an opinion. If that's enough to bunch up their collective panties, that's just too damn bad for them. Either watch the NBA or don't, but **** off with their attempts to censor someone who they have no right to censor. Least that's the way it should be, but $$$$$$$$

The NBA and the Rockets are not controlled by China, they are free to make whatever decision they choose. If the China appeasement approach upsets you that much, you are free to hit the stakeholders where it hurts and boycott the NBA.

Morey prides himself on his pragmatism and he should've anticipated the huge backlash that would follow from what he did.

All the NBA has to do is say, "Yeah, well we have free speech over here. You might want to look into it."

Another person who don't understand freedom of speech.

Freedom of speech != freedom from consequences of speech.

No one is censoring Morey and his views. Others have a right to react to your free expression of speech.

If someone was free to say F the police, but then get shot by the police as the consequence of the act. Would that still be freedom of speech?

By banning the Houston Rockets over a tweet, ccp-controlled businesses are making fools of themselves and bringing far more attention to Morey's comment than Twitter ever did. I have no problem with the Chinese government showing themselves for who they are.

This was the most shocking thing to me. This guy has been the GM for a team that's had the strongest relationship with China for many years now. You'd think that he'd be somewhat aware on how his tweet would be perceived by the Chinese.

Regardless of the ethics of this situation, Morey's situation definitely warrants him being fired. It was such a huge blunder.

Your absolutely right, and you better belief I'll never purchase league pass, tickets to games, or any NBA apparel again if they cave. And you'll never see me wearing the Rockets merchandise I've already purchased in public again. I also know that I'm one person and the NBA could give a damn about me compared to China. I just hope and wish that there are more like me out there than I know, and that's this capitulation hurts the NBA, and the Houston Rockets specifically, badly here domestically.

Maybe he felt strongly about the future rights and freedoms of people in Hong Kong. Just a thought.

To a certain extent though, right? Because if his feelings were that strong, then he would not have removed the tweet.

Yes, that's freedom of speech. Police shooting you would be an abuse of power however.

Morey's statement is an act of free speech. The Chinese overreaction is not related to Morey's freedom to express his views.

Freedom of speech is only about expression. It does not guarantee a lack of consequences. If you made terrorist threats here on the internet, that would still be freedom of speech. However, you'll get a visit from law enforcement soon.

Yea I'm sure he was willing to put his entire career on the line for the people of Hong Kong

Obviously it's all just about money. Shows what a sham the NBA is when they will threaten to remove an all-star game from a state for passing and trying to enforce a bill restricting bathrooms to based on birth gender(which I personally did agree with since the laws that states are passing are ridiculous), but they will cowtail to China despite human rights violations and removing rights from citizens they agreed they could have for another two or three decades under the transition of HK back to China.

When you can't express an opinion without immediate backlash that results in you losing your job, it's not freedom at all. Now don't bring a dumb example like your terrorist one. I understand China loves to mute opinions they don't like with authority and abuse of power. I'm just glad there will be more eyes on this problem thanks to Morey. Also, if China gets what they want (firing Morey). He'll be the best GM on the market available so he'll be back lol

If that makes the NBA a sham, then the entire USA is pretty much a one big sham. Obviously, it is all about money, and that mindset has made US the most powerful country in the world.
