Lol at people calling out the NBA for cooperating with China, when every large corporation makes billions off of some Asian country.
Ask western firms to pull put of business deals with countries that don't have democratic laws in line with the EU's or the US constitution in place and see how many westerners will be unemployed within a matter of hours.

So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

That was an illegal arrest. The student has recourse, he can sue, and will almost certainly win.
America isnt perfect, and you'll find problems everywhere you look, but it's a non-comparison to China.
Exactly my point, however, comparison to China or not, it’s arguable, your opinion is as valuable as mine.

Maybe be a little less self absorbed and stop trying to make this about the US in your ten posts on the subject.

Also way too complex of a rabbit hole for Morey to be digging into & trying to make waves in. Some of these guys just don't get it
Lol.
Quit acting like this is some run of the mill issue that doesn’t matter much.
China is a disgrace of a country.

He stood up and immediately sat his ass back down. Wow what a response. Now the NBA and Rockets are emboldening the Chinese even further and where is Morey? Probably in a secure bunker somewhere.
And instead of blaming China, the NBA and/or the Rockets, you're blaming Morey. It's like blaming the person calling 911 instead of the person committing the crime.
Who said I'm not blaming them as well but that is to be expected but to me Morey cowardice is what makes this story interesting. I don't think I've seen such a spineless/weak/pathetic example of virtue signalling in sometime.
He showed zero courage of his convictions, somehow managed to embolden the Chinese further, and made the entire NBA look weak and subservient to China.
Silver did that with his literal statement. If you want drag Morey for removing the tweet, fine. But make no mistake, Silver is responsible for the language he chose to use.

Silver tried desperately to bow down to the Chinese and they just kicked him in the chin. Serves the league right for hanging its own out to dry to appease a communist dictatorship responsible for more deaths than any other regime including the Nazis.

Many people here including myself have always had issues with the players, coaches or league becoming progressive and forcing their SJW issues down our throats when at the end of the day, all the fans really want is an escape from their real life problems. We don't need to spend our hard earned money to escape to more political BS.
Look at this very site. Why do you think political talk is not allowed on the General Board? Because it is a clear distraction from the real topics that we all want to discuss which is basketball. So why would anyone endorse activism in sports when it causes a huge distraction?
The NBA made this bed imo. They, along with the mainstream media like ESPN, TNT etc. have turned SJW on us. Everybody in the league suddenly thinks that they are some world changer activist with their holier than thou opinions when they should be focusing on what they're good at and what they're getting paid for.
What I find ever more funny and hypocritical is that all these Trump hating activists that are now are silent and bowing down to China whereas Trump is actually the one who is standing up to China and not letting them bully us. Anyone else see the irony in all of this?
I really dont understand why SJW is used as an insult. Like what has Lebron advocated for that is so ridiculous that your deriding him for it? And what has he done outside of wear some T-shirts during warm ups and make a few comments in off the court interviews that classifies as "forcing SJW issues down our throats"?

I would go a step further and think the owners pushed Silver into backing China. Look at the statements by Nets owner Joe Tsai and Fertitta

Lol at anyone sticking up for that country. They deploy spies to attend foreign schools in order to keep an eye on the pro-democracy movement that is picking up steam amongst the younger generation. That is **** up.
I won't even get into the amount of times they've tried hacking into Canadian government databases here.

So since our entire global economic system doesn't comply with the most basic ethical values, as you rightly pointed out, what are we going to do?
I've come to the conclusion that most folks don't really care that you broke one of the rules... they just enjoy telling you that you broke it.

There are also Isreali Organziations that have operatives in US colleges. Organizations have "forced" politicians to actually pass laws that directly oppose our 1st Amendment Free Speech Rights. Geo-politics is complicated.

If a tweet would cause them to wanna dismantle something valued at 4 billion dollars. Lol just walk away. It was gunna fall apart eventually if they that sensitive.
The apology was even worse. You either had to fire Morey and kiss China’s ass. Or stand with Morey. There no in between ground you could credibly stand on. Now China gunna give you the finger and you look like a hypocrite

Let's be clear, I support democracy in Hong Kong, but I certainly care far more about democracy in my own country, the US. So yeah, in that regard Trump's attacks on American democracy are most important to most Americans, especially since he already promised China to stay quite about Hong Kong if it was financially beneficial, which means he's taken the exact same stance on HK that the NBA has.
Most people's problem with how Trump took on China is the impact it had on Americans. But if farmers are okay with supporting a politician who will put them out of business, I guess other Americans probably shouldn't care.
And I think your argument that because someone does the right thing all of the time, they shouldn't bother to ever do the right thing is probably the best summation of Trumpism I've ever heard.

Silver got dragged into it by Morey if he wasn't willing to deal with the pressure the smart thing would have been to check with his owner and Silver to say I am thinking of sending out this tweet will you back me up on this.
Instead he haphazardly spoke on an issue and then as soon as things got hot folded like a cheap ten dollar suit.

So basically, don't talk about politics because you don't agree with them? If Tom Brady kneed down to pay respect to fallen policemen, would you have an issue with it? Athletes are people and they can talk about topics like normal people talk about.
And there is no irony. Trump standing up to China is basically him trying to start something he has no clue how to finish, but it looks good to the America public. The trade war has been a disaster. If he really want to stand up to China, why doesn't he pull Ivanka's business out of there? Why doesn't he stop trading with China until they let Hong Kong go? Why doesn't Trump openly side with Hong Kong? Trump made millions off of China but he is standing up to them?
Yes I would have issue with it if it's done during the game. I don't discriminate between race, I simply feel that there is no place for politics during sporting events because it can smart off trivial but then where's the line? As we are witnessing now it could easily spiral into something much bigger and even financially catastrophic for the league.
If you want to push your political agenda, do it on your own time and use proper judgement. Just because it's a free country doesn''t mean that you can say whatever you feel like without possible reprucussions especially if it puts your employer in a bad light.
I'm not going to delve deep into the politics because we're not supposed to here. At least Trump is standing up to them, that was my main point. The NBA is doing what exactly? Cowering down to them.
All of this would've never been an issue if the players/leaugue/management/GMs just stayed in their lanes and not think that they're some world changer. Morey tweeted later that knew little on the subject and just posted one perspective, why even bother? How about just STFU and do your job which is GMing?
Like I said, the NBA sort of encouraged this type of mentality, so they made their own bed while many of us think that there's no business for political activism in sports.
