That makes them even bigger pieces of garbage. It's easy to support human rights abuses when you don't have to live in the country that's perpetrating them.

Yikes, you missed the point entirely. My point is that Chinese-Americans are accustomed to hearing about complaints about human rights and trade practices. They are not supporting China. However, issues of territorial integrity like Taiwan, Tibet, etc elicit a different reaction and feels more personal.

If they live in China they’re exposed to government propaganda and will receive limited information except when they leave the country. Moreys tweet was the most banal, bare minimum tweet someone could make on the issue.

Did you even read my response? These are Chinese-Americans, they do not live in China. They are American citizens, they are exposed to as much Chinese propaganda as the average American.

You wrote overseas Chinese Americans. I assumed they live in China, that’s my bad then. I’d question their support for China and their sources of information considering that there’s been multiple resources in the field and on the ground that are reporting on the protests in Hong Kong.

Pretty sure it didn’t cost Morey anything. It’s the Rockets owner and the league who are scrambling because they stand to lose a lot of money. And eventually the players and the rest of the league owners will lose money as well because league revenues will be down. But Morey? He won’t lose a penny.

Classic whataboutism, LOL.

China can be kill anyone they want because US or UK or USSR or anybody else did something bad in other part of the world.

Typical argument of the CCP 50 cents Army.

The majority of my Chinese-American friends understand China's record on human rights and several have even gone to protests. They will put up with a lot of China bashing. However, the one thing that unifies all of them is an attack on Chinese territorial sovereignty. To them, a line has been crossed.

But he's on very thin ice to losing his job. Fertitta is apparently livid and has liked twitter posts calling for Morey's firing.

How are the Hong Kong protesters attacking Chinese territorial sovereignty? They’re essentially pro democracy protests and from what I’ve read China has been line stepping for years now. It should be up to Hong Kong if they want to live under a Chinese government regime.

There is so much media bias against China in the US today. This is not about the Chinese government, this is about the 1.3 billion Chinese all standing together to condemn the violent protesters in HK who are throwing fire bomb, vandalizing buildings, attacking police, and seeking foreign aid to try and break away from China. Morey didn't just insulted the Chinese government, he insulted the entire Chinese people, the paying customers of this NBA product.

Does anyone in the US get surprised when paying customers boycott some company if the company made, lets say a racist remark about certain racial group? Why is it when a US company made a bad remark about the customers in China and Chinese boycott the company, it's all of the sudden the Chinese government attacking the freedom of speech of an US company. You mean to say US companies can make any remark Chinese customers don't like and the Chinese should just shut up and take it anyway? How much more racist can people with this kind of view get?

It wasn't when I was growing up, except for the Olympics which is understandable. Cable news networks used to be respected as non-biased news, even CNN. Late night talk shows made fun of politicians equally, even SNL had their hosts like Norm McDonald that poked fun at the Clintons incessantly. Now if you have a guy with one record of saying something against their narrative, he gets fired immediately. Movie stars were never political activists, they just acted and did their thing. Sports shows only reported on sports, not issues on social justice. Players used to respect the anthem until Kaepernick.

So no. From my observation, entertainment was rarely used as a vehicle to push one's political biases until only a few years ago. It really has gotten out of hand and a lot of people are frankly sick of it.

SJWs are running rampant these days and from my observation are the biggest hypocrites. As Jordan Peterson put it, clean up your room and sort yourself out before worrying about others.

Did you grow up before the Colosseum was built in Rome? You can blah blah about SJWs all you want but that has nothing to do with the topic, or his comment.

A lot of the protesters want complete independence from the mainland. Many (probably most) just want more parliamentary freedoms and that is their official position, but you can see why HK given its history and symbolism as the first territory lost to a foreign power invokes a certain emotional reaction when a Westerner interjects themselves.

Who actual speak for the 1.3 billion? Can they freely and post a twitter like Morey and not get arrest?

Wait, wait, how can these 1.3 billion people find out Morey made a twitter post about HK? Is it illegal to access Twitter from PRC?

Do you know the max jail time for illegal access twitter in China?

This is why I've been saying that this issue is much more complex than most people here understand. You guys can't even agree to half of **** in your own country, I find it pretty rich to be SJW'ing on another country that you never even cared about before this episode. Ftr, I don't believe in much of what the MSM reports anymore, there is always a biased agenda behind it all.

I say let China worry about China, we worry about ourselves and the NBA worry about playing basketball and STFU about anything else.

Treaty says until 1947. After that, it's up to China. That's the way the world has always worked...Hong Kong can try and protest and get support and maybe something will change. But it doesn't have to and the ball is in China's court. It will be their territory.

Have you read the news? Chinese people genuinely see this as a sovereignty issue.

Nets owner Joseph Tsai who is Taiwanese:
The one thing that is terribly misunderstood, and often ignored, by the western press and those critical of China, is that 1.4 billion Chinese citizens stand united when it comes to the territorial integrity of China and the country’s sovereignty over her homeland. This issue is non-negotiable

Of course it does. I listed most of the entertainment outlets in which I stated that none had political leanings until recently. How does that not address his assertion that politics has always been pushed via the entertainment avenues?
