Re: Knicks vs Wizards Game Thread (Mon 7PM)
Some more notes: Robinson didn't just have bad stats, he was also -26 in 20 minutes. Have to see if it's a trend. He did show some skills, but most of the time he just didn't have it.
Jem Jones needs to get more PT. I just saw him near the end of the 4th and he only played 5 minutes, but he brought a change to the game. 3 seconds after he came in, he got a rebound and ended up with 4 plus 3 assists in his 5 minutes. My view is he's a keeper and certainly a better player than Schofield - who was awful. Just because they paid to pick him and he's got guaranteed money does not mean Schoefield should make the team. I don't think he should. Matthews looked like a sharp-shooter but not much else. But that's what they want with him - a 3 point shooter, so he's got a decent shot to hang around on the roster. Bertans was bad - took some ugly looking shots, but he did show enough to show he's a deadly 3 point shooter.

This is all facts. Especially Jones over Schofield.

Yeah. I saw the still image before I saw the full play.
The Morris twins are...not nice people.
PS I love Justin Anderson. Warrior.

Schofield is obviously struggling with the speed of the NBA game. All of his shots look rushed. I though that he played much better on defense and on the boards than he did in Summer League. But if he can't make shots he can't play in this league. Hopefully, it's just jitters.
The bottom line is that we all know it's not a Schofield versus Jones scenario. Schofield is our 2nd round pick and he has a 3-year contract. He is going to be on the roster. And with them picking up Wagner's option, we know he's going to make the roster too. So if Jones makes it, four of the following players must be cut: Chiozza, Booth, Anderson, Robinson, Bonga, McRae, Mahinmi. Which 4 are you cutting?

liked what I saw from Anderson, but let's see what he does over the next few games. Can't cut Ian. That's a valuable expiring and ballast in a trade. Assuming they're high on Bonga it's between Anderson and McRae. Speaking of games, do we still have one with the Chinese team on Wednesday?

I don't think they will cut both Chiozza and Robinson. IT's health is too iffy to not have a 3rd PG.
Hmmm. The more I think about it, the more it might make sense to just play Troy Brown at PG. It would free up minutes at SF for Anderson and Jones. So cut Booth, Chiozza and Robinson. And the 4th guy can be Mahinmi if we're sure we're not going to need his salary in a mid-season trade, or Bonga if we think we might trade Mahinmi. I'd probably cut Bonga.

I'm glad Anderson wasn't hurt, but admit I also laughed at Morris's pathetic preseason posturing, and his emphatic postgame comment reminds me that no other player in the league better offsets performance shortcomings with macho bravado than Marcus Morris. Oh, wait, there's one other guy. I think the Spurs dodged one here.

The thing I don’t like about the Morris’ is they always pick on guys who won’t retaliate.
Markieff does this too. Of course he goes after a guy like Anderson who’s just trying to play hard and make the team , he knows he can’t afford to fight back because he’s on the fringes of the roster

Yeah, I don't think there's any compelling need to keep any of Bonga, Robinson, and Chiozza. Honestly, I think Chiozza (while having the lowest ceiling) is the best player of those 3 - he's a real hustler and plays smart.
Have either of the Morris twins ever played on a team that exceeded expectations?

Re: Knicks vs Wizards Game Thread (Mon 7PM)
Recorded the game & watched it late last night. Busy all day so far, hence this late comment.
I really enjoyed watching this game. Great to see Rui debut with a solid game. Also great to see Thomas Bryant play so well (wish one of those 3s had gone in, but... they will). Bertans looked pretty rough when he first came in, ut he seemed to settle down.
Individual on/offs are meaningless: Brad was -5; Booth was +7. Does that mean anything? True that Robinson didn't have a good game -- but, it was his first game ever vs. NBA competition. Can we maybe give him a little more of a chance, what do you think?
Note that Robinson has a partial guarantee; they're not going to cut him to keep Chiozza. Nor should they.
Jemerrio Jones looked great, no surprise. As Ruz posted, he needs more PT. Ditto Garrison Mathews. Who looked a lot better than Schofield. Then again... one game.
Can't wait for our next game on Wednesday.

Chiozza is in his second TC/pre-season & actually played some real NBA minutes last year -- only a few admittedly, but enough to give him a meaningful experience advantage over someone like Justin Robinson. As to his being +10 last night, give the credit for that to Jones, Mathews & Booth.
There is no reason (& no room) to keep Chiozza. But Bonga has one of our 13 guaranteed salaries, & Robinson is partly guaranteed. If we keep McRae, as seems likely, then that's 15. If we get a player exception, we'd be able to keep Jones. Or Anderson.
