"Constant humans right issues" can be equally said about the US and half of it's "middle eastern" allies.
Globally, there is a lot of focus is in HK right now... but Saudi, UAE, Israel.... cmon. It's not like HK is a glorified ghetto, like the people of Palestine.

Right, you know exactly where I get my news from. I'm actually subscribed to the Economist and Foreign Affairs. I listen to a variety of podcasts about politics.

Just because OTHER countries are bad...and they are. Doesn't mean we ignore China and pretend like they're not one of the worst.

You got that right, it is not your duty however the NBA does come off as hypocritical when they get involved with other social justice issues. This is selective activism, why support certain agendas but not others?

How about this novel idea? Keep all the political crap out of the NBA so that you won't come off as being selective or hypocritical??

Not quite. There is a big difference with bringing social justice issues to light WITHIN its own country and getting involved with an outside government that has its own belief systems. A country that intends to have 2 billion cameras installed in every location by 2022.

So, if another mass shooting happens, another innocent life is taken or any of the sort happens in this country, the league should stay away from any recognition because it’s a political issue?

That’s a strange way of thinking, buddy. These social justice issues were what built the league in the first place from the 50s, 60s on.

So the Chinese government is shutting down all pre -season broadcast games . So let’s pull out of China all together . There’s no point to playing those games now . For the players safety and staff really it’s time let China go right now

Absolute nonsense. The CCP has control over what products and services Chinese citizens are allowed to legally purchase. 'Consumer choice', as flimsy and ineffective as it often is in the west, does not exist in any form within China. The Party decides what you can consume and that decision can change on a whim.

Furthermore the Chinese populace is inundated with propaganda that makes even the considerable PR powers of western governments envious. I don't blame any Chinese citizens for seeing the NBA as the big-bad just because one guy employed by the league gave his opinion as a private citizen, they are not receiving anything resembling a fair and balanced perspective in their news media.

And as for the west trying to 'recolonialize' (sic) Hong Kong......

The west wishes it had the power to set a million protestors loose on the streets of governments it opposes, in reality they have no such influence. The HK protests are obviously organic to anyone who isn't swallowing the CCP propaganda hook line and sinker or those who think the CIA has omnipotent power of persuasion that only tin foil can prevent.

You're saying Chinese opinions can safely be disregarded because they're all brainwashed.

Sounds vaguely racist.

You caught me bro, I thought I was being slick but you're just too sharp. Nothing gets past you.

Except the entire point of all my posts on this subject.

Where do you draw the line? You can't. You also want to known as a league that is impartial to the general population, you don't selectively take sides based on your political idealogies. Why is that every stance that they have taken have been those that coincides with the leftist idealogies? Do you not recognize the clear bias in this?

Keep politics out and none of this **** would be happening. Us fans would be able to simply enjoy sports in its purity. I love sports, I love basketball. I love football, I love people in general and of all colours. My colleagues and supervisors are people of colour and I have the utmost respect for them. What I do not appreciate are people and entities that try to push their political idealogies onto others because I can clearly see right through them for what they are. Indoctrination.

Yep. And you could tell he had no intention to.

It’s different cultures clashing. To Americans it’s not a big deal what was said. Anybody could say anything and that’s their opinion and they have a right to express them.

For China, state restricts media and differing points of view. They are trying to do the same and make the NBA bow to their pressure.

Silver grew a spine today, and China obviously doesn’t like that.

There was a person in Hong Kong who uncovered how his government systematically violated the rights of its citizens.

The government sent out an order for his arrest and tried to hunt him down.

He managed to escape.

You might've heard of him.

The man's name is Edward Snowden and the country trying to silence him was the USA.

Too bad basketball is played by people, not robots. At least make all employees swear that they will never – not even in their private life – take a stance on political matters. Let them be gladiators in the arena, denied of their inherent rights as people so that the mob can enjoy the spectacle. Did I get that right?

Every lie contains a little bit of truth in it. The key is finding those little truths to piece together a whole story.

Disregarding the snide comment and whatever implications were supposed to come with it about "woke YouTube sources" (it's whatever, my original post was pretty snide too), you're not wrong, at least about the part where every source of media is biased and that one should do their due diligence in piecing together a whole story. From where I'm standing, there's a good amount of the opposite going on in this thread, hence the original post.

Entertainment is used as a vehicle for politics and this pertains to all avenues of entertainment- not just sports.

It wasn't when I was growing up, except for the Olympics which is understandable. Cable news networks used to be respected as non-biased news, even CNN. Late night talk shows made fun of politicians equally, even SNL had their hosts like Norm McDonald that poked fun at the Clintons incessantly. Now if you have a guy with one record of saying something against their narrative, he gets fired immediately. Movie stars were never political activists, they just acted and did their thing. Sports shows only reported on sports, not issues on social justice. Players used to respect the anthem until Kaepernick.

So no. From my observation, entertainment was rarely used as a vehicle to push one's political biases until only a few years ago. It really has gotten out of hand and a lot of people are frankly sick of it.

SJWs are running rampant these days and from my observation are the biggest hypocrites. As Jordan Peterson put it, clean up your room and sort yourself out before worrying about others.

Did you grow up before the Colosseum was built in Rome? You can blah blah about SJWs all you want but that has nothing to do with the topic, or his comment.

His post is **** hilarious. Never read a more ignorant bunch of nonsense.

Athletes have been involved with politics from the moments radio and TV gave them a platform. Ali, Jackie Robinson, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and spring on. Movie stars have been political activists for decades. Marlon Brando refused to accept his Oscar as a political statement and had a Native American accept it instead. Charlie Chaplin made an entire film basically condemning Hitler and other.

I wasn't aware that comparison was a thing until South Park. Had to look up the story. Could you imagine if the US banned cartoons because of comparisons to our politicians?

Comedy Central has already censored a South Park episode because it mocked the prophet Muhummad.

Comedy Central is not a government though.
