I dont think think the response is overboard. They are simply laying down the rules or enforcing the rules re their engagement w the NBA.

Their response is completely overboard, especially since Morey, the Rockets, and the NBA apologized and yet The CCP persists with their bullying act, trying to treat the NBA like their treat their citizens.
And yes, it is not unheard of being fired for commentary on a political issue.
