The NFL average through Week 5 for offenses running the football with two or fewer wide receivers in formation between the 10-yard lines on early downs is 4.4 yards per carry. Kyle Shanahan and his 49ers are blowing that average out of the water with their 5.6 yards per carry average on such runs and, as a result, rank inside the top-10 in yards per carry when running the football on early downs so far this season.

Also, they held tryouts for 7 FBs today but didn't sign any of them, according to Cam Inman.

I'm fine with that. I don't love any of the names worth signing and would rather become more TE dependent/reliant anyway. That's an easier solution to me.

I wasn't liking them against the Rams this Sunday and I'm liking them less now.

Now two cogs to their running game are out and scheme can only overcome talent to a certain point.

The only thing I can say is they are at least avoiding the major injuries and at least by the time the schedule gets brutal they'll be getting guys back.

Skule so far at least seems functional in the run game but yea starting your 3rd and 4th string tackles usually means you might be in for a tough week.

If Shanahan can get the offense to be productive this Sunday than I'll really have to tip my hat to him.
