Re: Rookie Discussion [19/20] [part I]
DeAndre Hunter did not start but still had a solid night. 13 PTS, 5 REB, 1 BLK and 50% from the field. His three did not drop but he got into the paint and made up for it. The Hawks actually played some D tonight. They lost the game but held the Magic to under 100 points and 37.6 from the field. A lot of that was Hunter and in second half spurts Bruno. Reddish made his first shot and then was 0 for 6 the rest of the night.

Zion is going to have a lot games where he shoots 90% from the field against the bottom feeders.

Unless an injury happens, I have a hard time not seeing Zion winning it. Even if someone is close to him stat wise, the narrative for Zion will be too much to overcome.

He is a beast in the paint. Unless he starts making his free throws, I can see some smart NBA teams playing a little hack a Zion. At least until the end of the half and 4th quarter.

I agree that is how it looks and most NBA fans think the same thing. It will be ironic and not a bad thing from where I sit, if the Hawks end up with the overwhelming 2nd place ROY again

Collins/Fernando
???
Hunter/Reddish
Hurter
Young
Is the longterm core in Atlanta, right?
Is Collins more Al Jefferson or Amar'e Stoudamire?
Is Hurter more Klay Thompson or Evan Fournier?
I'm confident in my assessment of Young (Kemba Walker type), Hunter (Andre Iguodala without the playmaking, but a better jumper type), and Fernando (Brendan Hayward type career incoming)

You should check your confidence in assessing player similarities. Kemba's career average assist per game is 5.5 and his best season was 6.1. Maybe you have Trae confused with the PG the Mavs drafted and traded away. Smith Jr.'s career average assist is 5.0 and much closer to Kemba than Trae is.
So far the future lineup looks like this:
Trae
Huerter/Reddish
Hunter/Reddish
Collins/Hunter
Fernando/Collins
No Hawks fan in their right mind thinks the rebuild is over. But most think this is a nice start.

If either were correct, I would say that is an outstanding 19th pick in the draft. What say you? Getting either of those at 19, bad pick or one of the steals of the draft. I think Collins is a steal myself. The Hawks and their GM made the most of that pick. By most fans standards, that is making lemonade out of lemons. Maybe you expect more. I think its unrealistic but there is always hope for the hopeless FO's in the league.

Re: Rookie Discussion [19/20] [part I]
Biggest takeaways watching Zion thus far is that he is actually quite great at finishing below the rim if he has to because he's got such fantastic touch and body control, and he's a deceptively good passer. Nothing flashy, but he sees open teammates and makes decisions quickly.

I watched some of his Duke games and against the Hawks Monday night. He is pretty much unstoppable once he has a lane and head of steam up. He is going to be a problem. I think playing him tight and physical is going to be the only way to even bother him a little. Much less stop him.

The simplest way to ask this is as such:
What past or current player do you think John Collins compares most to?

NAW looks really fricking good, if Hayes is as good as advertised, this Pels draft could be legendary

Simmons might have a chance but that's about it
