No...I think some of the comparisons are about the process they are trying to follow, and the style of play they're hoping to institute.

I haven't heard anyone compare them in terms of talent or ability on the floor.

Some people have. But, you know how it is, a lot of people are jerks.

You're correct though in terms of the process they're trying to follow. In terms of play style, CLP surprised me in saying they actually try to follow the Heat somewhat. Said stte that, even though they don't get up and down the court fast, the rate at which the Heat runs their sets is apparently very high. That's what they (the Hawks) want to see.

I concur with Buzz in saying the Nash-era Suns is a more apt comparison than the Warriors though.

That's pretty interesting, actually. So they're not necessarily looking to fast break, but more initiate quick sets to get mismatches, cross coverage, etc?

Never would have thought of the Heat as a high frequency half court team, but I've watched them twice in two years...!

Zion is goona average 20+ points quite easily. Finding the open space, finishing in traffic, power, finesse finishes, etc. Dude is just too good around the rim. Really the only thing that would stop him are incompetent passers.

somehow Zion is exceeding my already very high expectations.

we should all be happy this dude is now in the league, he’s going to be the face of the NBA for a long time.

You won’t get anything crazy from RJ, unlike Zion. He’ll just drive, bang, hit and-1’s, and hit occasional threes. But it’s the simple game that makes RJ great

He is going to have to be better than 42% from the field. I don't think that will be a problem but he has not had a great preseason in that regard. Rookies, poor to average efficiency, and turn overs usually go hand in hand. NBA D and length is on a whole new level. I think Zion will take a efficiency hit in the regular season as well.

Just due to playing against regular season lineups and talent. Zion will still get his though; I just don't expect him to shoot a whole lot better than 45% from the field. That is really not great for a modern day NBA big; but it is not bad for a high volume scoring rookie at all.

I respectfully disagree and don't understand how you come to this conclusion watching his game at all. The guy's athleticism pops every single time he's on the floor. His ability to weave through traffic is unique only to him and there is no other player who comes close to this ability at his size. It's like he's a running back, how he pivots, jukes and hip steps when getting to the rim.

Also, his craftiness and touch around the basket is already top tier as a 19 year old rookie. Even Lebron shot sub 65% around the rim as a rookie. It won't happen with Zion; just too strong; too crafty; too good. The Pelicans have the best offense in the half court this preseason, according to Cleaning the Glass, and it is mostly thanks to him. The defense has been concerning, but that's for everyone on his team and that will come. Sorry for going off on a tangent but he has played three preseason games and has popped in ways that shouldn't happen for a player this young. Shooting 45% from the field maybe a fair prediction for most players this young but I genuinely would be surprised if he shot any less than 50% from the field. He is that good!

I originally voted for JA because he will have the ball on his hands but after this preseason games its pretty clear Zion will win it.

Claxton looked good today in limited minutes, 8 pts, 3 boards, 2 assists and 1 block in 8 mins, even made a triple

Feel like this thread is just going to be Zion highlights and fans of teams checking in saying their rookie looks good.

Thybulle's looking good btw.

Through two preseason contests, Ja Morant leads the NBA in assists average, dishing out 8.5 helpers per game.

Just as impressively, Morant is averaging only two turnovers per contest. To put that in context, Trae Young ranks second in dimes (8.0 APG) but is also averaging 8.0 turnovers. In addition, Morant is shooting 50 percent from the floor. The rookie's fantasy stock is on the rise.

Will be better than seeing strange arguments about Trae vs Luka repeatedly.

Y'all are a lot more optimistic than I am. If RJ Barrett is scoring 20 ppg or Ja Morant is going for 14-5-5, then I have a bad feeling about how this thread is going to turn out.

Ya its a rookie thread, no way this is going to go smoothly. We all remember the Simmons vs Mitchell rookie thread from a couple years ago, that thing was a mess haha.

That Simmons/Michell crapfest was horrible, but the worst rookie thread I've ever seen was the first one I participated in. 2014-15's trash fire was a legendary one. In hindsight, reading through multi-paragraph responses about the virtues of Wiggins, Noel, and Mirotic were so ****ing pointless in hindsight.
