I know he was arguably their best player last year, but I can't help shake the feeling that I can't see his role on a contender. He's a big who doesn't space the floor and is weak defensively, and can't play the 5. I just think pure 4's who aren't bringing insane value like griffin or potentially zion are kind of outdated, especially if they can't play defence.
I’m high on Collins I don’t believe you trade him unless you get a superstar in return. He put up slightly better numbers than Siakam who won MIP and he’s only 22. Good size and insane athlete and I believe his defense will come in time. Not a high volume shooter but shown he can knock them down. Put Hunter at SF and that team is just missing a elite defensive big man.
There is no way he was better than Siakam last year. Siakam is the perfect 4 for today's NBA, while I believe Collins is the opposite. He is great rebounder, that's his best asset imo. Unfortunately his lack of defence, playmaking, spacing and positional versatility will handicap him and his potential impact.
That's exactly the issue, so that team is lacking defence, so you're looking for unicorn style bigs to play the 5 and fit with Collins in the frount court. Realistically only Jaren Jackson and KP immediately spring to mind in terms of fantastic fit next to Collins.
Collins inability to either protect the rim or chase smaller guys around as a pure 4 is a major issue IMO
Absolutely was on par with numbers

Collins was also 3 years younger and only coming into his second year which is a huge advantage. Siakam had better defense but was also on a better defensive team and at 22 I have no doubt Collins can be much better going forward.
Spacing and playing making when Siakam only averaged 1.1 assists and .022 percent better 3pt percentage on the exact same attempts. Collins has all the tools he just needs to improve his defense and stay consistent.
