LeBron has always been a phony with a paper-thin facade who lacks self-awareness when it comes to this stuff but this is unbelievably bad. I am stunned that those words actually came out of his mouth. This is going to blow up beyond belief. One of the most hypocritical moments I've ever witnessed from a sports star.
This couldn't be more right.
He cares about his money, that's why he's bothered by this.
I would say that he must be embarrassed when he told the media that Morey is misinformed with his statement, but I don't think LeBron is smart enough to realize his statement is incredibly hypocritical

“While the NBA commissioner has stood by Morey it has been disappointing to see others like ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith heavily criticising his tweets for jeopardising the league’s bottom line,” Oliver begins.
“If you’ve never heard Stephen A. Smith talk before, just know this: He tends to be loud, wrong and takes pointlessly dramatic pauses.”
Oliver then played a clip of Smith weighing in on the China issue by criticising the man who started the conflict — Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey.
“You just don’t think about yourself when you act (pause) … that’s what boys and girls do (pause) … that’s what children do (pause). Grown ups? (pause) Adults? (pause) People who understand? Social media era really exposing how stupid and vapid most of these athletes really are.
They will wear pig socks and "kneel" to protest the flag that allows them to be multi-millionaires, but defend and/or stamp down criticism of a literal totalitarian government. Wonderful.

Thanks for calling this out because that’s what this is quickly turning into, the US right wing making an appeal to hypocrisy as their justification for having opposed every civil rights issue here in the US

Stupid is attacking people for criticizing a totalitarian regime because of "business reasons (the new basketball reasons?)," while at the same time proclaiming yourself an activist for refusing to stand during the national anthem...actually, scratch that, it's hypocritical AND stupid.
Kaepernick and his defenders like Lebron were never activists, they were never Muhammad Ali, they are selfish and delusional wanna-be provocateurs who are all about their image/branding and nothing else.

LOL I don't think you know what hypocrisy is. Ask ya mans Lebron about that. Dude gets mad when he's told to shut up and dribble when that's basically what he's telling Morey to do. **** OUTTA HERE!!!!

I didn't say it was hypocrisy, I said you were making an appeal to hypocrisy which again is what you just did, you are criticizing him for being a hypocrite. My bigger point was that people are doing this not out of genuine concern for human rights in china but because you oppose the positions that he and kaepernick have spoken up about in the past and you want to poison the well so that if they say anything else about human rights in the US in the future you will be able to easily write them off.

Morey seems well educated on this subject. Lot of people know what is going on in China.
But LBJ is trying to basically tell somebody they shouldn't talk bad about China for financial reasons. Instead of saying that, he's claiming the person as uneducated.
Misinformed about what? Not really educated on situation? Seriously?
Are we just going to say people are misinformed and uneducated when it hurts you financially? That's ridiculous.
LBJ is making Adam Silver look like warrior.
There's always going to be ramifications when talking about such a big issue. Should we all just keep our mouths shut because of these ramifications [financial risks]?
What is considered difficult? I think it's pretty difficult that we should not question atrocities done by China because it affects millionaires financially.
And what would sending the tweet a week later do? Are you trying to say he should have consulted with somebody before sending the tweet? With all the chit people talk on the internet and Twitter, why is this a topic that needs to be consulted first?
I was honestly warming up to LBJ a lot these last couple of years. I felt people were too hard on him. I felt they gave him too much attention. And held him too highly for some topics.
I don't have a Twitter. But I have some friends/family who are always triggered by his tweets. And my reaction is always, why do you follow him? He's just exercising his free speech on some issues. You don't have to agree with it, but I can't see what he has said in the past about some social and political issues deemed as bad.
But this is one case where I think he should not have said anything, because he's the one that is coming off as uneducated and misinformed.
I know it sounds hypocritical because I'm saying LBJ should have not said anything. But if he wanted to say something, he should have said the true. It was wrong for LBJ to say Morey was uneducated and misinformed on the issue. If he was going to say something, he should have been honest ("I wish Morey kept quiet because it's affected the NBA financially").
"I don't want to get into a [verbal] feud with Daryl Morey, but I believe he wasn't educated on the situation at hand, and he spoke. And so many people could have been harmed not only financially, physically, emotionally, spiritually," said James before the Lakers' preseason game against the Warriors.

But LBJ is trying to basically tell somebody they shouldn't talk bad about China for financial reasons. Instead of saying that, he's claiming the person as uneducated.
"I believe he was either misinformed or not really educated on the situation, and if he was, then so be it. I have no idea, but that is just my belief. Because when you say things or do things, if you are doing it and you know the people that can be affected by it and the families and individuals and everyone that can be affected by it, sometimes things can be changed as well. And also social media is not always the proper way to go about things as well, but that's just my belief,"

LBJ is making Adam Silver look like warrior.
James then took to Twitter afterwards to clarify his comments in two tweets.
"I do not believe there was any consideration for the consequences and ramifications of the tweet. I'm not discussing the substance. Others can talk about that," said James in his first tweet.
There's always going to be ramifications when talking about such a big issue. Should we all just keep our mouths shut because of these ramifications [financial risks]?
"My team and this league just went through a difficult week. I think people need to understand what a tweet or statement can do to others. And I believe nobody stopped and considered what would happen. Could have waited a week to send it," he added.

What does Kaepernick really have to do with this? Has he even made a statement about the NBA & China?
I don't see how Kaepernick kneeling relates to LeBron throwing Morey under the bus.
Robillionaire and FatKat are right, imo. Some people just want to clump everything together so they can discredit what has been said/done in the past (and future) by certain athletes.

most people only have genuine concern for things that directly affect them or someone they can identify with in some way. we're selfish in that way. we pick and choose our concerns and ignore others. it's just not possible to care about everything and everyone in some kind of meaningful way. we'd have time for nothing else if we did. so i don't actually expect lebron to jeopardize his business for the plight of people on another continent. just don't speak out against someone else who used his platform to do so.

Re: OT: Hong Kong, China, United States and NBA
Didn’t feel like the players had to say anything really. This was on silver and the NBA execs/owners to cleanup. They’re the ones who wanted to act like social justice warriors while dealing with China lol. Never liked when sliver went out and said he supports players using their platform to address social issues.
What happens when the social issue may affect the business yet is morally the right thing to fight. And as we’ve seen, they just gunna shut all that **** down lol. Just let the players do it and don’t toot your horn as this progressive league when your just like any other company. As long as the bottom line is good it’s OK

Agreed, if Lebron seems disinterested or do not want to comment, it is totally fine as lots of other players did the same, I as a basketball fan would not and should not demand the players to get involved into "foreign politics" if they don't want to. We also may get too tired to be emotionally attached to Indonesia, Iraq and Catalunya as they are fighting in a similar way but against different animals. But to comment Morey as if his comment hurt Lebron's noble pocket money? Gtfo and stop claiming himself as a person standing for justice, this just gives "justice" a bad reputation.
LickBeiJing wanna earn Renmenbi? Fine, just shut up and pick your money, but don't hurt the suffering people and leave them as is.

How about high school with PR major with the signature show called "the decision"? That must be a higher qualification than a lowly MBA.
