How far back was this? Not a loaded question but I’m curious if it was before summer league or the draft as I was admittedly oblivious to this kid.

He was saying it draft night, IIRC. Dude was the founder of the Carsen is a steal bandwagon.

Well I’ll be dammed. Good call.

That’s tough...I would say Cavs, even though they seem to have the best player in Love. The team just looks like a complete mess. The Hornets are bad, but there seems to be a little more potential there. I don’t like any of the Cavs young players very much at this point.

And going all the way back to his high school and USA days, this is the main reason (defense as well) that I have never been fully on the Trae Young train. Last year he had 1 month where he shot at least 35% from 3 (shot very well with 43%), but that's it just one month. Its not from a lack of shooting ability, its from horrible shot selection.

I do think he's a good enough shooter (especially from the line) that he is never going to be horrific from an efficiency stand point. But with his turnovers, shot selection and defense, ya that stuff prevents me from buying into him going to be a star one day.

Teams have not adjusted to Trae. That is a pipe dream a lot of eastern conference fans are hoping for. The Hawks have 6 returning players from the start of last seasons roster: Young, Collins, Huerter, Len, Bembry, and Carter. Trae has played more minutes with any of three rookies than two of his remaining starters in Len and Huerter. The sky is not falling and Trae Young will be fine.

You cherry picked .350 and that excluded four other months of .340, .347, .337, .337 to go along with the .437. His 2018/19 season total assist to turnover ratio was better than 2 to 1 ( 653 assist to 308 turnovers ). For a high usage rookie and primary ball handler that is outstanding. I don't know what to say to this Trae is a bust kind of talk other than you probably tasted crow last season and you will be again this season. Trae will be an All Star and star for the Hawks for many years to come. Book it Danno.

:banghead: This is why it's almost impossible to talk young players with another team's fans. He never mentioned anything remotely close to him being a bust, he just said he didn't think he would be star. You can't make even the smallest criticism without there being overreactions. Anyone with even one eye can see Young has a horrible shot selection, he'll take three steps over halfcourt than launch a second into the shot clock. 34% from three isn't good either, Young just wasn't efficient as a rookie. Those are just two small criticisms, every young player has at least two.

Sherman Douglas, Bevin Knight, Jamaal Tinsley, and Mark Jackson also had at least the same assist to turnover with as many assists......

I am sorry this causes you to hurt your head. In most NBA Fans eyes, a top five pick is suppose to make all-star games. Just being a starter, role player, or 6th man is seen as a bust. Marvin Williams would be a great example of a top five pick who meets that criteria and is called a bust. Now stop hurting your head and make some sense out of my logic.

It is not emotional for me. It is logic.

Hornets.

I feel like they're going to struggle to score 98ppg, where as I fee like the Cavs will just have a terrible defense but between Love, Osman, Sexton and Garland you should have some games where they have their shots going in. The Hornets are devoid of offensive talent and the ball will be in Roziers' hands way too much.

Edwards is getting most of the hype but waters deserves to be mentioned too, he is playing really well in the preseason, he already looks like a usefuf back up PG and he was a 52 pick.

What? Where did I say teams have adjusted to Trae? Where did I say he was a bust? I didn't cherry pick any stats, I clearly stated he only reached above 35% once in a month from 3. That isn't cherry picked, it's the truth. For a guy known for his 3pt shooting, that 35% mark shouldn't be a crazy one to hit.

It's like if I don't sing nothing but praises for a player I'm considered a hater or something. I've been extremely critical of Zion in this thread and the rookie thread, I'm far from being a Zion hater. I just don't think it's all that far fetched for me to say Trae has bad shot selection. I didn't think that was some controversial take. This isn't me hating on him cause in the East or he's a Hawk, you can go to the draft board before he even played a second of college ball and you'd see me saying the same exact thing. All I'm saying for Trae to be a star, he needs to be a super efficient high volume scorer to make up for his horrible defense. With his shot selection im not sold that will ever be a consistent thing for him. I'm not calling him a bust, just in my opinion I wouldn't bet on him being a star.

Well, the team is so devoid of talent, I can't see them not getting a good chance at the top pick. Something they can look too. They just had their hands handed to them, starters and all, with like the celtics top 8 players not playing.

I think the Cavs and Hornets could be chasing 10 win seasons. With the huge shift in the odds, smart money is on at least one of them losing out big in the lottery drawing.

Pistons need to stop playing and trade for Chris Paul already using the expiring deals. Reggie Jackson looks like he’s about to be the worst point guard in the league
