When is Thybulle’s injury scheduled for? It’s getting kind of late for the procedure.

His length and quickness alone make him tough defensively, but his instincts and anticipation should make him an elite all defensive caliber player. It helps that he's also remarkably mature for his age.

Many already expected us to be the top defensive team in the league without even factoring Matisse into the equation. With Embiid and Horford on the floor, BB has the luxury of keeping Thybulle on a longer leash and allowing him to wreak havoc all over the court. Simple and plain-- his presence is going to make us better.

There is something special going on with this kid.

From his game to his personality, he doesn’t seem like a typical rookie.

Perhaps I'm overreacting, but I feel his upside (as soon as this season) after watching him is 2nd on this list after Embiid and could even pass him. The question is inherently begging us to overreact on his preseason, so I'll indulge.

Why are we still considering Embiid our top defender when he no longer has the switch versatility and mobility in space than he did as a prospect? I think Embiid has grown and deteriorated into a strictly post defender/rim protector. He's no longer the Davis/Antetokounmpo freak that he was in his young/healthier/lighter days.

This is really hard to say at this point.

Embiid, Simmons, Horford, and Richardson are all proven high level NBA defensive players. I think that Thybulle has to be behind all of them on day one simply based on track record.

He looks amazing so far, but let's see if he earns rotation minutes and can keep it up through Christmas. If he does then he might move up that list.

But if it's based on what we've seen thus far, which seems to be where the question leading, then he has been the best defensive player of the preseason by a substantial amount. His steals, blocks, and deflections production is elite.

Yeah, but I think he needs more of a track record in real games for us to know that it is real.

I'm blown away with him though, and have really high hopes. If he is capable of playing 20 minutes a night with highlevel defense, and the ability to hit 3's, then we will be a lot better of a team this year than people think.

Our bench last year, after the trades, was like a D whereas our starting lineup was an A. With our offseason moves, and Thybulle's contribution(if he can do it) we might have a bench that is a C+ or B-, and that is bad news for the rest of the league.

I certainly didn't count on getting anything meaningful from Thybulle or Smith this year, but Thybulle is looking like a real contributor, and that really helps our depth.

Matisse was a historically great defensive prospect and it appears to have translated. He's our best defender.

I’m interested to see how teams game plan around all his playmaking. Feel like a smart team could take advantage with some movement and backcuts. Good test right of the gate with Boston/Stevens.

He makes better gambles than Roco. I’d like to see how good can he be defending star wings. Like man to man defense than playing team defense. That was my issue with Roco.

For the mean time, i stand with my position that Thybulle was a lotto material in the 2019 draft.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Taking Thybulle in the lottery is a really tough sell. Mikal Bridges went lotto because he had a stronger shooting profile and a junior year breakout, scoring-wise.

Thybulle went four years with no scoring jump.

He has looked extraordinarily good but thats a big exaggeration. I will be surprised if he will ever have a bigger defensive impact than Embiid.

I think he can contribute even in his rookie year, how much though will depend on whether he can avoid the stupid fouls that inexperienced rookies tend to commit.

Two questions.

1. Who’s a more impactful defender today, RoCo or Thybulle? RoCo’s volume shooting makes him the better player, but defense only is close which is surprising.
2. By the playoffs do you think he’s ahead of Ennis in the rotation? Is he our Paul George stopper in the finals? Kawhi is too big and physical but maybe he can go toe to toe with George?

Thybulle is a more impactful defender, pound for pound, but I do think Covington has more positional versatility (given his size and length) and thus more defensive value.

As special as Thybulle is defensively, he is just 6'5" 200 pounds. I doubt he'll fair any better than Kent Bazemore in defending the tall 220-240 pound scoring beasts like James, George, Leonard, etc.

Roco struggled with quick SFs + SGs, like Tatum and Brown. His lateral movement was slow against them.

Thybulle seems to be better with his lateral movement. Thybulle with the help blocks from behind are very good.

Simmons should guard Paul George and Embiid should guard Kawhi.

People are getting ahead of themselves. Covington can guard 1-4 and has led the league in deflections. If we're going to go by pre-season, just last night Covington had 3 blocks, 1 steal, 15 Defensive rebounds and only 2 fouls. Let Thybulle play a regular season game.

Thybulle is what I thought Nerlens would be in the NBA, but in a G form. Nerlens and him are the only guys who were truly absurd disruptors on the defensive end at the college level. Only difference is I didn't expect Thybulle to have that ability translate so well at this level. I also didn't think Nerlens would **** the bed.

Ive only seen clips but what you guys are saying is really exciting. I didn't expect this man to crack the rotation at all. If we have a true defensive specialist on our hands, with the defensive infrastructure we already have, my oh my.
