Re: John Wall Appreciation Thread - Part III
Man, all this John Wall love is putting a damper on my "trade Wall by 2021" hopes.
(I'm not hating. I like Wall and think he will come back and be real good. I just don't think it makes sense to build around a 30-year-old PG when Beal will be 27 and the rest of the core is 21-23.)

Understood. I don't think he'll ever be traded with that contract and because of they type of game that he has

But you're not building around Wall. You're building around Beal and two young big men (Bryant and Hachimura). I don't see a real good 30 year-old PG as a liability in that scenario. In fact, an experienced PG might be an asset given that four pieces of the Zards core (Bryant, Rui, Brown and the 2020 pick) are all 21-23.

Not when the alternative is $40M in cap room to shop for other players.

I hear ya. And I don't disagree with you in principle. The question is always what players are available.
We also will need to take into account what the chemistry is like between Wall and the others when he returns full-time in 2020-21...and how well the team is playing. If the team is playing well with Wall at PG you have to think along the lines of "if it ain't broke don't fix it."

Re: John Wall Appreciation Thread - Part III
I double down on what both of you say. Here's hoping John comes back & plays great.
Of course, since I've admitted being irrational in wanting to add nothing but young players from now on, I will point out that after taking a lottery pick next year, & if we buy a R2 pick (we don't have ours), we'll be at 13 players & @$108m: Wall, Beal, Bryant, Smith, Rui, Troy, Mo, Bonga, Jones, Admiral, Robinson, & the 2 rookies.
If Garrison Matthews develops as a 2way this season & earns a roster spot for next year, make that 14 & @ $109.5m.
Gives us @$30m to sign that 15th guy. What do you think?

If he’s already jogging and shooting jumpshots can we really justify sitting him the entire season?
Just give him til the all star break and let him play himself back into shape and build chemistry with the young guys.

Re: John Wall Appreciation Thread - Part III
I'm not sure if this is new, or just a repeat of an old story:
https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/255761/John-Wall-Expected-To-Miss-Entire-19-20-Season
It might also be the party line of the organization whenever asked by reporters, with the intent to get that injury exception.
https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/255761/John-Wall-Expected-To-Miss-Entire-19-20-Season
John Wall is expected to miss the entire 19-20 season as he recovers from a ruptured Achilles. Wall suffered the injury last January when falling at his home. Scott Brooks previously said the Washington Wizards will not bring Wall back until he's 100 percent healthy. Wall has four seasons and $171 million remaining on his contract with the Wizards.
It might also be the party line of the organization whenever asked by reporters, with the intent to get that injury exception.
