Three things as to why past doesn't matter much in predicting the future for KP:

1) Physically he looks better than ever before.
2) He will not have to carry entire franchise on this back - he has Doncic, who is the best player he has played with in NBA so far and more importantly Doncic is PG, which means KP's job of getting buckets is about to get a lot easier than it was with Knicks where his PG's were guys like Calderon, washed up Rose and half-retired Jack.
3) The most important one - the load management. It's already been confirmed that KP will be load managed on Mavs. That never really happened with Knicks. He played lots of minutes and only skipped games when he had injuries of some kind. On Mavs he will not play b2b and I imagine his minutes will be restricted too. That should help his stamina issues and he might be able to keep his production high all through the season, not just first couple of months like it was with Knicks.

I know it's pre-season, but it's interesting seeing KP getting 13 rebounds in 25 and 22 minutes in the last 2 games. Some Knicks fans said that KP can't rebound. We'll see. I wouldn't be surprised if he averages 10+ rebounds with Mavs.

definitely something to watch for in the regular season. Unsure if it's due to increased size allowing him to body more in the paint for rebounds, or just preseason.

either way it'll be interesting to see if he can average 10 rbs/gm

Nah, that 10 RPG ain't happening - it's not even in the realm of possibilities based on what he's shown in his 3 years in the league. Rebounds are largely a hustling/caring stat. As a perimeter oriented player you can get them by caring about your stats or by focusing so intently on the skill. KP isn't built to be that level of a rebounder mentally.

In his career he's played 186 games.

He's posted 10+ rebounds in 38 games (20.4%).

His first season, when he was all about making an impression and impacting the game in any way he possibly could (re: Putback King KP) he had 21 of those 38 career double digit rebound games in 72 total games played (29.2%).

In the two seasons since, when he decided he was going to take on the role of maxcat scorer and prove he's a lethal shooter, he's posted just 17 double digit rebound games in 114 games played (14.9%).

For guys who don't operate primarily in the post, rebounds require either lots of committed hustle or determination to procure at a 10+ RPG rate. Porzingis isn't that guy, and the stats bear out that the more he focused on being a "Star", the more his already below average rebounding skills declined: in each of his three years in the NBA his rebounding rate % has declined, for both offensive AND defensive rebounds.

Image

The guy is an exceptional defender and shows intoxicating aesthetics on the offensive side of the ball, but using his size in traditional basketball ways has never, ever been his thing. He'd have to become an entirely different basketball player now to average 10 boards, and I have seen absolutely 0 indication of that being on the horizon.

He did look really good yesterday but he still hasn't approached his early season of two years ago. So it's kind of the same thing. Jumper and energy level seem to come and go.

I do think Doncic will help him greatly. So mixed messages. I want to see where KP is at around January/February: Is he playing, is he playing with a lot of force? Winning solves a lot and Doncic is great IMO. Some flaws but a good tandem for KP.

KP himself I'd not bet on entirely. His efforts on the boards seems unlikely to last. He's not that much stronger, he quits on boards or just seems late and not forceful enough. We shall see. Will be interesting.

I don't really see that he's gained a lot of strength. But he did look very good last night, and had really good energy.

This occurred to me. I think he loves LA. He played well there as a Knick (specifically against the Clippers that I can remember). The only other team I remember him doing especially well against was Chicago.

I don't know about his feelings toward LA, but Mavericks are perfect for him. Medium size market that is big enough for his ego, and small enough to push his agenda through his brother but at the same time Luka would be first for blame. I don't think he would demand trade from there unless situation would become toxic, and I don't belive he would play center because he don't like it. It's intresting to watch them develop tho

I'm about to go in your mind...ready?

The only reason you made this thread is because you have been watching what KP is doing on the Mavs this pre-season, and it's killing you inside. Even Courtney Lee and Timmy are doing well, and trust me, it's doing the same to me, it burrrnnnns like holy water on Linda Blair.

But don't come here and **** lie to our faces that you don't give a ****, because you spent the time and energy to do this...you do. You made this thread so guys like me can come and suck his dick, and you can call them out on it, but inside, you wish you could do the same, put aside your worthless Knicks ego and give the kid his props...he's playing well.

Get yourself out of denial and admit we **** up, it's ok, the Knicks don't owe you anything, especially to lie to yourself and others, put the **** KP sign down and take a deep breath.

I know I know....KP wanted out...so did Michael **** Jordan and Kobe Bryant, but you know what Mills and Co. did....rubbed their hands, looked at each other, thought this is it, our out, and showed him the door.

It was his right to go into the office and ask wtf is going on after the tumultuous first years he had here around Phil Jackson and Carmelo, but the Knicks took that opportunity to start a smear campaign in order to defend their move in case it flopped, it did, and lo and behold, KP was the one running the ship, giving them orders, not these clowns in suits. AD demanded **** too, and his ass was sitting down for a year....KP asked out   Yeah, Janis made their knees shake, these poor guys.

But I was down too, man, but I'm not making fake threads to set a booby trap for the people that see this bull. I look in the mirror everyday, point and laugh "KEVIN DURANTTTTTTT". I was a shmuck too to believe their ****, Dolan going on Kay and saying "I got good sources about a couple of big free agents hahaha"...fool me once yeah I know shame the **** on me but still, that was the move, that was the play, so why should I hate KP for that?

We need to stop believing and spreading these Knicks lies that it was a good trade, defending and comparing a bench player we got back for our "rebuild" to a superstar...they have tickets to sell, we don't. They'll never admit it, we **** up, and we need to stop this charade that getting this garbage was our intention. They had a plan, and the guys in the plan are in Brooklyn, and this is it and it isn't KP's fault because if this was indeed it from the beginning, it would have been a lot nicer with him in tow. Now we gotta live with it.

Sad to see Alan become a company man, he used to be one of the good ones.

His clueless coach said that KP wasn't even running, and KP, in his young, millennial smart alecky way, posted a picture of himself sprinting. WTF does that have to do with him saying he wasn't gonna play all year and Fiz? Fiz was answering a question about his progress, which the moron had no clue about, not if he was going to suit up the following season, that was already known. The question asked in Dallas isn't the same Fiz was asked in NY, but Alan is making it seem that way.

The reason Fizdale looked bad was because he had no idea where his franchise cornerstone was in rehab, he thought he was sitting on the couch somewhere in Baklava eating pastries while the kid was in fact sprinting around.

Company men spreading hearsay.

"Got away" or wanted to "get away"

Still feels like, for whatever reason, it was part 2.

And I get the Knicks franchise doesn't inspire confidence, but if that was the case, I feel like KP & team never gave Perry a chance, who's been pretty decent.

Then again, I'd tend to believe the rumors that KP's entourage wanted "more say and more jobs" in the organization.

At that point, it probably became mutual, and KP and co figured "The franchise isn't the best and we can't get control and jobs" so they moved on.

It's possible for KP and co to be half right and half wrong, kind of dicks but not completely.

Anyway, f*ck KP.

Therrre we go...that's better, half blame, it's a start. :cuddle

Soon you'll be rocking a KP Mavs jersey and yelling ohh yeahh!!

Ok, I'll get out of your head now. 8-)

It's just fun, all love, take it easy. We'll be aight.

Gotdamn KP hit another three **** cocksucking **** piece of ****.

My wife was watching Shark Tank and didn't know why I was fuming. I swear if I see this **** piece of **** in public I will stab him with a smartphone.

Yeah, I hope you get it right in the ass, **** nerd. Gave us Dennis.

Actually none of that.

I figured KP would do decently on Dallas. Why not. He was good here. He'll at least be good there. There was always the chance that he'd finally develop further there. May or may not happen, but it fits a timeline.

I personally know that I laid out all various reasons why the FO might have moved him, risks etc ,and why it was a solid move, no matter what KP did. I wanted him to stay, but ultimately the decision tree that lead them to move him even if KP didn't demand it, is solid. Also the return. Always said the return could look like a win to the Mavs as KP takes off, but it would still be a good trade. This is outside the angle KP may have demanded the trade. Which I've stated a bunch no on here will ever prove either way.

Honestly, it was an attempt to gather some of the KP stuff, pro KP and anti KP, in one place, so it doesn't infest every game thread and every post game thread. Which it will anyway.
