Dion Waiters suspended by Miami Heat - trade coming?

Post#1 » by Illmatic12 » Sun Oct 20, 2019 4:09 am

Waiters complaining about his bench role and causing disruption. Pat Riley will most likely get him outta there

Waiters making $12M this year , and $12.5M in 20-21

What teams out there would be interested ? There are very few teams where Waiters would start.. Charlotte or Detroit come to mind .

It's hard for a Waiters trade because Miami is hardcapped and kinda asset depleted.

I believe it would take the Heat adding some very significant value in any deal that moves Waiters. Nobody in the NBA is taking on a problem child making over $12M the next couple of seasons. This is especially true since Waiters has never been a particularly good player and has a history with multiple years of being truly awful.

Is Waiters for KCP straight up a legal trade (on Dec 15th)?

I don’t think Waiters is necessarily that bad when in shape. He is inefficient offensively , but is a solid ballhandler and can be a plus defender.

But it would have to be a team where he’d get starters minutes, like say Detroit. Or the Lakers because he’s played with Lebron before , I think LBJ could keep him in check in the locker room.

KCP and LA both probably say no.

There’s a certain Chris Paul available damn it would be crazy if he had a bad attitude and could hurt team chemistry unlike Dion and JJ who would be the salary going out...

Kinda feel that the whole trade board has been looking for a taker for Waiters for the last 3 years. Not sure the suspension helps things.

Not suggesting Waiters is a useless player btw. He puts up numbers for sure.

KCP probably will be able to refuse the trade because of his contract situation. He is represented by Klutch and they have much more influence in LA than they do in Miami.

I wonder if there's a way for the Suns to be involved as a third team with a Ty Johnson for R. Jackson swap. A Waiters/Johnson backcourt would be really solid defensively and removes the issue of Blake, Jackson, and Waiters all needing the ball to be effective.

I know it was part of the culture with the "we take care of our guys" stuff, but man that offseason signing Waiters and Johnson to those deals (as well as Olynyk) was brutal for the Heat.

I don't see a deal happening. Teams will want compensation and Miami isn't in the position to give any.

Maybe it makes a CP3 deal slightly more likely? Don't see why anyone else would be interested.

I think people are out a little over their skis on Waiters contract. It's not that much money and can be easily packed as filler in a bigger trade. As far as Johson, the Heat matched the Nets offer the same summer Portland matched Crabbe. Imagine how different things would be in Brooklyn if both teams said have at them.

If Dion were expiring it wouldn't be too much of a deal, but I don't think any team will take on that extra year for a guy who may not be worth putting out on the court and will cause issues if you sit him. Sure he can be part of a package for another overpaid guy like Paul. Right now I'm not seeing a fit with a team that also has a two year (or more) deal they want to get rid of that may want to kick the tires. Something needs to go out with him to get an expiring beyond 2nds. Maybe not a first, but 2nds won't do it.

The Johnson I was referring to was James Johnson, another guy the team sent home for issues. But yeah the Tyler Johnson contract was stupid from the outset too.

Could see Memphis taking back James Johnson and waiters, have to be something like:

Johnson/Leonard+Waiters+Herro for Iggy + Anderson+ Melton , which I’m not sure either team would be thrilled about but it’s not a bad move by any means, I think if it’s leonard Memphis would throw in the two suns 2020 and 2021 second round picks

Waiters, Dragic, and Johnson plus a 2025 #1 lotto protected for Chris Paul, Noel, and Nader. Saves Miami $5 million gets them out of the cap gets rid of Johnson and Waiters 2 guys they wanted to move.

OKC gets an asset out in the futuree.
