I don't see a deal happening. Teams will want compensation and Miami isn't in the position to give any.
I think people are out a little over their skis on Waiters contract. It's not that much money and can be easily packed as filler in a bigger trade. As far as Johson, the Heat matched the Nets offer the same summer Portland matched Crabbe. Imagine how different things would be in Brooklyn if both teams said have at them.

Waiters contract is not that huge but it has 2 years left. They want him out and J Johnson they signed them to deals that were at least 1 year too long.

I don't believe Waiters is being traded, nor James Johnson. The Heat will go with the team they have. Suspending Waiters is fair. James Johnson was ousted from camp for being out of form. Pat Riley getting involved doesn't mean he's going to stamp an unruly player's passport. That's the opposite message you want to give. Waiters already needs to fight for minutes. This doesn't help him.

Waiters, Dragic, and Johnson plus a 2025 #1 lotto protected for Chris Paul, Noel, and Nader. Saves Miami $5 million gets them out of the cap gets rid of Johnson and Waiters 2 guys they wanted to move.

OKC gets an asset out in the futuree.

If the Heat were willing to give up assets for Paul, he'd already be in Miami.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Heat might do this without the pick added, but still a bit of a stretch, Miami will want a better positive asset than Nader or Noel coming back

The Heat are eating the extra year here for a player who is going to be 37 in that final year. If OKC can move him without having to send out a pick, they should consider themselves lucky. There are far easier ways for the Heat to move, or even deal with the Waiters situation.

As much as I am a fan of Dion Waiter (I am), I will enjoy watching the front office deal with the "Waiters Situation."

I don't get why we always have to hear so much about the Miami Heat culture when they seemingly always have guys suspended for some kind of insubordination. It's not like this is some scrappy, overachieving team. They're always up towards the top of the league in terms of payroll and habitually trade away future draft picks, yet this expensive, veteran-laden team always has these kind of issues popping up.

Waiters + JJ

Both teams get a fresh start.

The only players we've had with these sorts of issues are Waiters and Whiteside. What issues are always cropping up, aside from these guys? BTW, this is Waiter's first issue, and it's been years that he's been with our team.

I recognize he has no trade value, but come on...

Nobody in the NBA is taking on a problem child making over $12M the next couple of seasons. This is especially true since Waiters has never been a particularly good player and has a history with multiple years of being truly awful.

I don’t think Waiters is necessarily that bad when in shape. He is inefficient offensively , but is a solid ballhandler and can be a plus defender.

But it would have to be a team where he’d get starters minutes, like say Detroit. Or the Lakers because he’s played with Lebron before , I think LBJ could keep him in check in the locker room.

I don't think LeBron particularly liked him back in Cleveland. He was traded for JR and Shumpert.

Waiters and Miami's 2020 second round pick for Norman Powell.

Toronto takes a gamble on Waiters and hopes he turns it around here, they shave one year off Powell's deal

Miami gets a spark plug off the bench who can play either SG or SF for them giving them a decent defender and gets rid of Waiters who obviously doesn't want to be there

Yup, and how neither team would be thrilled. Lol!

I like the idea that was floated earlier of Det/Mia/Phx. Something like...

Det out: R. Jackson, T. Snell,k. Thomas, and S. Mykhailiuk.

Det in: T. Johnson, and D. Waiters

Mia out: Waiters

Mia in: Snell, Mykhailiuk

Phx out: Johnson

Phx in: Jackson, and Thomas

Why for Det: I like what Waiters has to offer vs Snell. Jackson is not a great fit in Det gives them a chance to see if Johnson can fit the bill. Det has too many players on the roster at this point and needs to move someone. Both Thomas and Mykhailiuk are interesting offensive projects but Det has too many at those positions and neither will see enough minutes to figure out what they have.

Why for Mia: Moves someone who is not happy and showing it for a similar contract in Snell, and a prospect in Mykhailiuk with out giving up any assets.

Why for Phx: Swap exp. PG contracts and pick up a prospect.

I like it but the Heat are hard capped, can't take on the extra money, and I'm not sure if they have filler they view as disposable on the back end of the roster.

I honestly don't even like it for the Heat if the cap weren't an issue.

We have Winslow and Dragic as our top two point guards, and Kendrick Nunn who is likely to command time this season, all of whom would clearly be ahead of Dunn. Felicio is clearly useless. I'm just not sure the situation with Waiters is so bad that we need to move him for players who just don't have a use for us.

Maybe if Dunn were sent to a third team for nothing and we just got Felicio it would work, but I kinda think Chicago would have given him away, already...

Waiters + small asset for Snell makes some sense.
