The thing is, I don't ever remember thinking, "Crap, Brown is killing us" When we played the Celts. I remember thinking that about Marcus Morris. Am I crazy or wasn't Morris the far better player last year. And now Morris is marooned on the Knicks and Boston is breaking the bank for Brown???

I dunt getit.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Serious overpay.

Celtics are putting a lot of eggs in the Kemba, Tatum and Brown basket.

95 % of Celtics fans here are happy to ecstatic about this deal.
But we'll let the general board Celtics experts tell us how stupid Danny Ainge and Mike Zarren are lol.

The plan was always
Smart
Brown
Tatum

Once Hayward leaves in 2 years, all 3 of these guys will still be years before their primes.

Super pumped that this deal got done.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

Someone will inevitably jump off a bridge next summer too. That doesn't mean beat them to the plunge. Max-type money for a guy who took a step back last season, and averaged 13.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 25.9 minutes per game is ridiculous. If he doesn't step it up quick, this contract will be viewed in the same realm as Wiggins and Wall.

That's one way, but that way also gets Brown resentful, and sends messaging to Tatum and other players.

Brown in particular has shown to be aware of and sensitive to this kind of messaging.

The argument is that if he gets a max RFA offer next summer anyway because this is the NBA and some team will, and you know you're going to match, why wait and risk chemistry?

I think it's an overpay, but I see why they did it.

Collectively, how much will they be paid again once Tatum gets extended?

Herein lies the problem

But the team believes in him and doesn't want to trade him. This is the first rookie extension they've agreed to in 10 years. He's 22 years old, a hard worker, good on both ends, and already a proven playoff performer.

He's 22 years old and now guaranteed $115M after his rookie scale deal is up starting next year. He may be "good" on both ends, but he has not earned this type of an extension by any means yet. He better be a hard worker because if he doesn't improve, this contract will be an albatross. 22 years old guaranteed $115M after putting up lackluster production before signing that contract extension is a recipe for complacency in some respects - hope for Boston's sake he starts to produce at a high-level for this extension to make any sense moving forward.
Bet on yourself and believe in yourself if everybody doesn't believe in you. F--k everybody else. What do they know? If you have a passion and you want to put the work into something, then chase it. If it means something to you, chase it.

Imagine saving all those assets just to give Jaylen 13ppg Brown almost 30m a year.

Comedy gold.

With the difference that Wall was a legit top 5 PG and his contract only got really bad cause of the injuries.

What survey did you conduct to come up with that? I just went to your board and there are several posters unhappy about this deal. There's no need to overstate things to make yourself feel better.

This is a gross overpay until Jaylen proves otherwise.

BVB24 wrote:I think people are overreacting a bit tbh. Yes, it’s a definite overpay, but Ainge was never going to let him walk and Brown is still only (soon to be) 23. This contract is based on potential, which could pan out or backfire. Only time will tell.

Also, the Celtics aren’t winning it all anytime soon, but their core is young outside of Kemba. If things pan out for them with Brown, Tatum, and company, they could be contending in 2-3 years, as Lebron and these other guys get old and their window closes. Still a big risk though, so I get it.

He is only 22, but It feels like they are already paying for his ceiling.

whats the rationale of giving the near max/max to a guy you own RFA rights to who hasnt yet proven he is worth that kind of money?

anyone who is "ecstatic" about this deal is a homer. i can see how it isnt an awful one, but ecstatic? are they wearing brown pajamas?

One of the dumbest moves in recent memory. Ainge has fallen far.

Can we stop pretending Ainge is any good now?
