I liked Hogg as a prospect early on his A&M career, have to think Chase Buford is a fan and that's driving some of this. He's a versatile shooter, Bud type player. Also got the 8th pick in the G League draft. Don't know if Nick Johnson will be back but we have his returning player rights.
G League draft is a month from tomorrow (Oct 26).

Munford seems like he’s been with the organization forever despite only a cup of coffee on the actual roster. For the past couple years I’ve been confused as to why he keeps going back to the G-league. Maybe he just really hates living abroad.

He probably had a bad basketball experience from Barcelona and he hesitates to go back to FIBA ball.

It's probably pretty fun to be one of the better players in the league and retain free agency. The allure of the ten day.

Chuck Diesel wrote:A successful Herd season is really multi faceted. The ultimate goal is probably to replicate what the Heat have built with in Sioux Falls, fostering a gem mining outpost with a substantial hit rate on developing Herd players into Bucks contributors. They also want guys called up by other NBA teams (and high level Euro clubs) because it shows that the Buck's Oshkosh umbrella is a place where you can further your career, thus attracting future talent.
Winning in the G-league is often foolishly cast aside as unimportant. It's not. Winning energizes the fan base and keeps them coming back, which creates a better atmosphere, which helps the players, which helps the Herd/Bucks. G-league playoff series are really intense affairs & allow NBA/Euro personnel an opportunity to evaluate players when the pressure ratchets up. When Kyle Wiljer was with Rio Grande Valley, his uncle (what a name drop) also told me that G-league players get nice bonus incentives if they advance in the post season.
Winning is perhaps most important for coaches. Quinn Snyder Nick Nurse, Dave Joerger, Chris Finch were all elite G-league coaches who won. One of our assistants, Josh Longstaff, led Erie to the Finals last year and now he's on an NBA bench. Another, Taylor Jenkins, was on Snyder's Austin staff, succeeded him as HC and won there. The NBA is littered with assistant coaches and staff who won games in the G-league. It's a tremendous challenge to successfully navigate a team with an ever fluctuating roster, and the coaches who do it well are really good. We'll see if coach Brady is up to the challenge with the Herd.
So the 2018-19 Wisconsin Herd season was an abject failure on all fronts. They were the worst team in league without a semblance of cohesion to their parent club, which is why the entire coaching staff was cleared out. Not a single Herd player earned a call up. The initial 2-ways (Jaylen Morris & Trevon Duval) had no impact on winning & are unlikely to ever sniff the NBA again. Morris was cut in January. The Duval experience was apparently so bad they didn't even want him hanging around during the playoffs after the Herd season. Despite being just 20, he didn't receive a single training camp invite, which is a sign there was plenty of bad intel coming from the Bucks. I'm a fan of the way Bonzi Colson competed, but his talents are probably being put to best use in Turkey right now. Christian Wood put up insane numbers, but in no surprise to anyone who watched he never played a meaningful minute for Bud and again finds himself in a battle for the 15th spot, though he did put up some solid lines during final handful of mirage/tanking season games with the the Pelicans. Didn't stop them from promptly cutting him.
That said, I expect much brighter Oshkosh days this season under Chase Buford. He's a Bud guy & I think we'll see a much better, more closely aligned brand of basketball. Mason III is an NBA player on a 2-way contract. Reynolds's rookie year impact was enough to earn him a call up last season. The staff doesn't seem to have any qualms about assigning young veterans, so my hope is we'll get a heavy dose of Dragan until he's needed with the big club. It'd be nice to see him utilized like a super Brook Lopez, getting 15 of the type of shots he'd see with the Bucks. He and Thanasis could form one of the better front-courts in the league and compliment each other well. We might even see a few year three Wilson games if he's out of the rotation, as Bud wasn't afraid to do with Sterling last year.
Jalylen Adams has proven to be really good at the G-league level who will let it fly. RaJohn Tucker competes hard & will rile up the crowd with his dunks. Jamerrio Jones is one of the best board men in the league. Luke Maye will do Luke Maye stuff. Would love to see Michael Qualls back, not sure what his rights situation is.
Best version of the roster as we know it right now.
Mason III/Adams
Tucker/Lacey
Reynolds/Jones
Thanasis/Maye
Bender

Chuck is Jones a guy who could sneak his way onto the roster?

I would imagine the goal is to get him called up by another team. Doesn’t seem pass/shoot/dribble enough for Bud’s liking. Then again Thanasis is on the roster...

Yep, that's what I'm saying. You hang around the states and get a couple 10 days, you're probably at least matching what you'd have gotten in Europe. If European contracts were guaranteed, it'd be different. But they can be dicey af.

Do we have an official or even unofficial roster yet?
The roster on the Herd's web site is dated, very inaccurate.

I don’t think the season even starts for another month.

The season starts in 13 days when the Windy City Bulls roll into Oshkosh for a bloody beat down.
I think camp opens on Monday. Heck, I think there's even open tryouts today.

Draft is today at noon.
If the idea is to model the Herd after the Bucks, I could see Jones as a possible proto-Giannis. Get used to running to those blue rectangles.

Jones
Reynolds (2W)
Mason III (2W)
Adams
Tucker
Lacey
Maye
I guess we know about these guys. I haven't heard anything about McCoy. He wasn't around for the Bucks camp, so I imagine he's gone.
As of now, the Herd have three 2nd round picks including the 2nd and 3rd picks. We'll see if that means anything?!? Usually a bunch of different type of trades on draft day.
Long story short, we should know the roster by the end of the day.

The Herd were so amazing last year that they passed on most of their picks today. Very little size on the roster again, Luke Maye is terrible. Rayjon Tucker will be a lot of fun though.
