:reporter: fbalmeida coming to you live with the Pelicans season opener game thread round-up.

...

...

... and they're inactive.

So moving on to see what's cooking over at the Bucks forum, I've found a trove of goodies.

Starting with their trouble grasping elementary facts:
LMAO their game thread title is "Pelicans @ The Champs"

Unsurprisingly, the ghosts of the 2019 playoffs still haunt them.

Watching the ring ceremony really pisses me off. This should be us

Holy ****, Powell hit a shot and it wasn't against the Bucks, don't think I've ever seen that before.

Also fyck Lowry and the raptors.

Boy is Toronto a **** annoying team. Lowry teeny whiny bytch, gasol oaf whiny bytch, fvv bucks killer but average as fyck. Powell same.nurse clown clown clown.

Siakam cool though.

Did anyone think that last shot by Powell would drop?

Only if he had been playing the Bucks.

Yep, if the defender was wearing a Bucks Jersey there’s no doubt that would have been in.

Just wanted to say that the Raptors looked like absolute clowns getting their rings, mean-mugging like they have any chance of repeating.

And near universal dissing on Siakam, by comparing him to the league MVP. Something I've yet to see anyone other than them do.

The deer knows whom to fear:

I know it's the first game, but Siakam isn't the savior Toronto needed.

Who said he was a savior. He is in Middleton money category. A flawed, borderline all-star. He is definitely that player.

Let me know when you guys get sick of hearing how Siakam is like Giannis, I'm already there.

Raptors talk finished unceremoniously with a minute of absolute silence while the Raptors pulled out the W in the end.

Alas, there was something I think we can all agree on:

Love that the NBA is back but god damn I hate listening to Chris Webber.

I get that Lowry and FVV can't be playing nearly 40 regulation MPG, but what were the other options on opening night? McCaw is injured still and TD (as great as he looked last night and during the preseason) played in his first actual NBA game last night.

I'm sure Nurse and the team just really wanted to win last night's game after the ceremony. In the long run, McCaw will likely get ~10 of those minutes while TD/Powell take a few more too.

Agree with 'TD/Powell take a few more too' but, but - as someone said above, having this rotation, Raps are one injury away from big trouble in depth. Who else could emerge? Boucher? Thomas? Miller? We need at least 2 more rotation guys we could trust not ruining a game, we need them af and ASAP...

Siakam is looking like a superstar.

He didn't even **** play that well and somehow got 34-18-5...

Fred was very impressive I always thought he’s a starting pg somewhere if not here,

Yes, siakim’s performance is pretty overhyped against a poor pelicans team as 11-26 is nothing to write home about and he was a fouling machine as well.

But he should have another amazing season ahead of him.

I think Siakam would agree he can be much better around the basket and taking care of the ball. He missed a handful of really easy buckets and was a bit out of control on a few of his turnovers (though I feel the last offensive foul to give him 6 PF was a very bad call), but it's pretty damn encouraging that he still put up 34 points on average efficiency (55 TS%) to go along with 18 REB and 5 AST in a game where we weren't even running the offence through him that much.

Nav Bhatia has more championship rings than Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, and Dwight Howard combined.

This is legit one of the worst takes I've seen. Imagine being a bitter enough person to have an issue with the ceremonies today. Was he expecting the Raps to give him a ring as well?

Wow, what a Debbie downer. I was at the game and the ceremony was the best and happiest I’ve ever felt in my life (ok maybe behind birth of my 2 children) . I didn’t notice the stuff he noticed at all. I felt there was enough Kawhi clips (hello, other Raps hit big shots too in the playoffs). There will be a ceremony to thank Kawhi when he visits on Dec 11 and receives his ring. I felt the ceremony was amazing and actually the starting lineup intros was not as good as prior years or maybe I was in such a high after the ceremony that the lineup intros felt lower quality to me.

Was also at the game and no issue at all with how the ceremony went. It actually seemed a lot “livelier” than they usually are.

After thinking back over the initial shock of the last play of regulation, I recalled that Norm won the one on one drills in training camp. Dating back to last season Nurse has always used the regular season to experiment so this was his chance to see how Norm could do in the “closer” role. I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t even call a play and just told everyone to clear out and let Norm decide how he wanted to take the last shot.

People are overreacting to this play. Norm's shot was completely on line, it was just a touch long. While I doubt that was the play call, it was still a clean, balanced shot.

Serge athletically is moving better than ever and I feel he’s going to have another huge year. I think it’s best to ride him as a starter until the break. Just my .02

I would start marc and pull him early if he's sluggish or if things are clearly going our way. I agree serge can handle more minutes, but not too many more. I'd like to see a few minutes of hernandez each game to gobble up boards and make hustle/athletic plays.
Dont forget the world cup. 2 crazy title runs and he came into camp like 15 lbs heavier than last year. He will come around.

Poor Pelican's team? They got Reddick and Favors added which is huge, they still have Jrue, They got all of LAs youth not named Kuzma and they have Zion starting his career like Embid. This Pels team given time is going to be very good. Much better than with Davis.

Nurse likes to play the mental game with these guys, and part of me wonders if that isn’t some of why we only saw 8 guys last night. Think about it - banner and ring ceremony with the carryovers from last year and looking back on everything it took to win that Championship. What better message to send to the new guys than by benching them night one so they can watch the championship guys show them how it’s done and what working hard can lead to.

It sounds very cliche, but I wouldn’t put it past Nurse to do something like that especially with how open he was about the work habits of the new guys. He surely has to know that we can’t run 7/8 guys all year and survive for any period of time in the playoffs.

It was definitely a play call (Nurse what were you thinking?) and at that, very bad. I would never give it to Norm but when he got it he should have started earlier and go inside and dish, not shot three five feet outside three point line.
