Good to see that Embiid still loves that fadeaway mid-range jumper way too much.

Some random thoughts on last night's games:

1. I was so happy to watch Markelle Fultz last night. Everything that made him a tantalizing prospect (with the exception of his still ugly 3 point shot) was on display last night.

2. The Pistons were my pick to outperform their O/U the most this year. If Blake can come back healthy, I think they're talented and well-coached enough to end up with like the 5 or 6 seed in the East. I really like the Kennard-Drummond action they kept going to last night.

3. Luka looked like a bonafide star last night.

4. I still think Ja needs to learn to shoot if he's ever going to be an impactful starter.

I think there's a decent chance that we are also relatively disappointing this year (while still being a contender in the East), but I really think the NBA media has lost their minds with Philly. I think they've grossly underrated how much shot creation ability Philly lost this offseason. I think they're good enough to potentially get the #1 seed in the East, but I think they'll flame out in the postseason unless they majorly restructure this team. I just don't think their current makeup can win in the playoffs, especially if Embiid continues to settle for jumpers all year.

Pachinko_ wrote:amazing what a team like the Suns can do when they have an actual point guard.

Rubio was such a huge pickup for them. I think they're probably still bad this year, especially being in the West, but he immediately makes them a functioning NBA team, which is a huge deal for their young guys' development.

I got such a kick out of listening to Bill Simmons talk about how overrated he thinks Middleton is after he had just gotten done talking about how he thinks everything is clicking into place for Tatum becoming a star this year.

I guess you can watch Brogdon fill up the stat sheet and not be able to defensively navigate a PnR.

Boston's headed downhill. Losing Horford and Baynes killed their interior defense, and look at their roster - they really don't have good perimeter shooters. Hayward had a good first game, but I don't think he's going to return to all-star form. Tatum and Brown are both decent, but they're not the stars fans regard them as. Smart still can't shoot, Walker's a lot of fun and a great competitor, but he's too streaky a shooter and needs to be surrounded by shooters to be his best. I thought Grant Williams was a good pick, but he looked like crap against Philly, and they really need him to contribute as a rookie. I think Lankford was a bad pick, and in the meantime he's injured.

Beal clearly got tripped or was there something else?

Yeah, and didn't really look like he'd over committed to be in a position to get crossed over that comically. Live it looks amazing, but on the replay it's just funny timing when they screener splits and clips Beal's feet.
Really? I only saw the slowes down replay once, but it didn't look like anyone touched Beal.

Watching Brogdon highlights from last night, does he look leaner this year or am I imagining that?

Indiana losing @ home to the Blake-less Pistons is a great start for the under 46.5 wins bet :D

Probably a good bet with Oladipo out a while.

I went with unders on OKC, Knicks, Grizz. 0-3 last night, might as well start spending that money. Held off on a few others I liked trying to be a responsible gambler. Threw one on MKE to win it all, why not right.

Magic are an interesting team if Fultz can even live up to half of his original potential. That was a great buy-low lottery ticket for them. Pacers are still gonna be a playoff team, but I feel really good about my prediction of them being closer to 40-wins than they will be to 48. Just not sold on any of the moves they made this offseason.

I like all those, what odds did you get on the Bucks? The only other one I actually put in was Clips over 53.5 wins.

It's hilarious that history is repeating itself with Piston fans talking themselves into Christian Wood because he's Not Thon™.

These Grizzlies have a 2003-2004 Bucks vibe, except with much better foundational pieces and a better coach. Taylor Jenkins is gonna be awesome. Marko Guduric might be a better NBA than EuroLeague player. Obradovic keeps dudes on a much shorter leash.

Careful posting on GB, Toronto fans got a lot of mod positions apparently. Can dish it out but not take it.

Why is it a problem that Giannis can't shoot but not a problem for the Sixers that 75% of their roster can't shoot?

I don't have it on me but +550-600. Somewhere in there.

After game 1 that Clips looks good, I was worried about resting Kawhi but still they should get there. I thought Denver over 53ish would be ok. Bulls under. Cha under. But held off on those.

I disagree with you guys. The 76ers are going to be historically good on defense. I see 2004 Pistons from them.

Their defense is going to create a ton of transition opportunities for Simmons - who is weirdly one of the most underrated players in the league. I think Simmons is a top 15 guy by the end of this year. Getting rid of Butler is going to help him a lot.

Plus they still have assets to make a move. Zaire Smith, plus the Magic and their own pick.

There should be some type of mechanism to boot players who are not safe to play in NBA - Thon hurt Warren yesterday. Dude is gonna clumsily end someone’s career.
