We're talking about Furkan Korkmaz and Shake Milton, though. Neither of those players are good enough to force our hand in playing them or earned their way into being part of our future, either.

Keeping Zhaire out of the rotation and sending him away from the team to the G-League is just a bad move, in my eyes.

True.

I’m just not bothered by Zhaire.

You're freaking out over something that hasn't happened yet. They haven't sent them to the G-league yet, have they?

If he does get sent, it's because they can't find playing time for him yet, and he hasn't earned Browns trust. I'm sure he will play towards the middle or end of the season then.

At some point there will likely be an injury or two which will give him a chance to play.

I have to say though, that even if they give him that chance this year, and I am long term optimistic in him, he probably isn’t ready to contribute yet.

Reportedly inactive for game 1. Expected, but not any less disappointing.

Honestly, I need to see a season of 75%+ from FT and a marked improved with his handles before I can get excited about him going forward.

I don't think there's going to be a future for Zhaire with this team. He's been fully healthy and working on his game since March and he finished dead last in the "wing tournament" that we had in camp.

Oh what could have been. Josh Okogie or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or Mikal Bridges.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's involved in a trade down the road. I feel like it's evident that Matisse is doing the things we were hoping Zhaire would, and honestly still could eventually. A young, extremely athletic, raw guard is still a valuable piece.

He will be a good player in the future. Here.

He is 20 years old, and he couldn´t work last year. He is a project,we dont need him for the first game, we need him in the next years.

Shake, 23, Thybulle, 22, they are more prepared to play now.

so much so that he was the only guy on the preseason bench that didn't get any time playing with the starters. both he and Thybulle left Summer League with positive press, and he seems to have found a working 3ball heading into camp. funny thing was i thought Brett selected him to develop him into something special, given his athleticism. i don't get how this past camp showed much in the way of active development. (i admit that i did not attend any preseason games, and relying a little on someone who did, and swears he looked pretty good in what garbage time he got.)

I actually thought he was the only bright spot in that last preseason game against Washington. Wouldn't surprise me if he ended up leapfrogging one of Burke, Neto, Korkmaz, or Shake in the rotation by December.

Surprised that he's this far down in the rotation to start the season, but still a bit premature to hit the panic button.

Im just wondering what the sixers project him to be a avery bradley/george hill = on&off the ball or a kent bazemore/oladipo(before his rise) 3&d wing that can put the ball on the floor?

Probably neither which is why they are trying to take it slow with him. Hes not good at anything yet and he doesnt fill a role as of yet which is why hes been put to the side for a bit.

- point of attack defense
- team defense
- halfcourt cutting
- transition

I'd be almost willing to guarantee that Zhaire would be exceptional at all of those things right away.

The weird thing about his burial is the guys ahead of him are either unexceptional or completely unproven just like he is.

I'm pretty sure Zhaire Smith will eventually be a pretty good pro. (His game and how he moves, actually reminds me of Justise Winslow). But I'm not going to get mentally attached to him. The 76ers will eventually make a trade to upgrade the rotation. Zhaire is the only expendable piece that makes more than a minimum salary, and they'll likely need him to match salary in a trade.

He should spend time in the G League to get some decent time on court. He really hasn't been on a court much in 18 months, I can't see how he will develop at the end of the bench.

There is a real stigma for players going to the G League, like it is a huge demotion. Spurs have had great success with players like Patty Mills and Aron Baynes several years ago, and more recently with Derrick White. Jonah Bolden also got some quality minutes and confidence in there last year, and came back a better player, I think Smith should look to spend a month or two with the Blue Coats logging 30+ minutes per game, rather than hoping for one or two minutes every few days with the Sixers.

Or just play him 20 minutes with the big league squad.

Why the hell would Furkan Korkmaz and James Ennis be keeping Zhaire Smith from reaching the court? It's not like they're must-play guys.

Ennis although he had a horrible game, is still a solid rotational player. Let's not forget he was very solid against Toronto last year and has been really good in that 7th/8th man off the bench role for some time now.

Furky vs. Zhaire is an interesting one. I think Zhaire is probably better \, although Furkan (in theory) gives us more of an ability to stretch the floor (although he hasn't been shooting well at all in NBA since pretty much day 1; which is pretty much our biggest red flag. That 3 he hit against Boston really was a difference maker in us starting to put them away.

I think Zhaire would be benefited from playing huge minutes at the G League level again this season to hone his skills more. He's still super raw and years younger than Thybulle for example.

But maybe I'm offbase.

I think that Avery Bradley archetype is a good one. I also like a better defending Norman Powell. He's such an interesting player to me.
