What do you think is missing for a Chip squad?
Clippers looking dominant so far this year.
Kawhi is as advertised superstar
Bench Mob is destroying fools
Young players in Zubac, Shamet are stepping up as starters (i miss SEGA)
Vets brought in are doing their thing
Obviously the most important thing to win a chip is 100% health.
It's pretty clear a lineup of
Zubac/Harrell
PG13/JaGreen/PP
Kawhi/Harkness
Shamet/LouWill
PatBev
Is utterly lethal on both offense/defense. I was worried that AD would annihilate the undersized no Zubac lineup, but apparently hard and fast switching neutralized and countered when i was expecting LBJ+AD PnR spam.
Question is, what holes do you think need to be patched and more importantly what are realistic buyout targets? I dont think the Clips have the ammo trade wise to get anything meaningful done. All the FRPs are spoken for due to the PG13 trade, and i dunno if Kabengele, Mann, JRobinson, and MacGruder carry any value.
I still think backup PG needs to be addressed as i dont fully trust PatBev to stay healthy when playing heavy mins. I was hellbent on wanting a veteran big like Marc Gasol (who will get bought out if TOR underperforms and misses playoffs) but im starting to come around on Zubac's interior D. With more experience Zubac can prolly fulfill the big bruiser paint protector role fine.

Re: What do you think is missing for a Chip squad?
No team cannot be improved. But no one is gonna beat a reasonably healthy Clipper team in a 7-game series this season.
And we don't need 100% health, we're deeper than that. We do need another big though for insurance, a Joachim Noah or someone like that who will hopefully play no more than 10 MPG. So I guess that is missing.
This team has a very good chance of maintaining its overall health because of our depth.

wonder what happens when McGruder and George come back I assume Doc will want to keep Patterson as the starting PF as long as he can

Don't think we need anything else Chief. Maybe Boban just for the feels?

I still think (another) true rim-protecting 5 would be a great edition for the 3rd team... just thinking on how big/long Philly is, for example.
If dudes like Mahimi, John Henson, Biyambo, etc were to get bought-out and waived after the trade deadline, they might be more likely to help us in a key playoff moment then Walton Jr. (no offense to him)...
Or maybe there's a free agent or G-League guy available now that fits the bill?

Having Boban would be epic. Deploy him against certain matchups like DEN, and he'll be straight up annihilating slow Jokic. Sit him vs more fast paced perimeter centric teams. Deploying the Boban was my favorite meme the past 2 years, he's such an awesome situational weapon to have. Hell DEN and Utah are both prime threats and have slow centers, Boban would be perfect to deploy against them, i actually rather hope that DAL gets knocked out and are willing to trade Boban for a SRP.
My biggest worry about PG13 coming back is we'll get clunky, "my turn, your turn" ball. I hope Doc has a gameplan for those two to maximize their efficiency while reducing the wear and tear. Having 2 such versatile weapons on offense at the same time, shouldnt be hard to figure out, but i worry about egos getting in the way.
However if both superstars dont give a **** about MVP stat padding and are 100% cool with being Load Managed for 25-30 games each... that means they can both put up MVP caliber numbers when the other is sitting and be primed and ready to roll fools in the playoffs when both are going full tilt.
Yea 3rd C Boban and getting another backup PG (as usual i stan for Lin, sucks he didnt get brought on board for the min), would pretty much cover all the potential holes on the team. Ready for any situation short of PG13/Kawhi suffering major injury.

I was never concerned with a backup pg. Honestly I think that's just the media narrative trying to find a fault. But dude I totally agree, watching Boban was super epic last year. Against classic bigs, he was basically the Michael Jordan, PER GOAT of bigs lol. I hope he returns one day. Never forget..

The easy solution is just give Gortat a call. If we are just looking to add a big body cheap, then I would absolutely call him. He would be fine with what we have now.

Gortat was the worst Clipper by far last year. Every lowest-rated combination had him in it. After we kicked him to the curb in February he got zero job offers. Tells you all you need to know.
Hell, I'd start Beverley at center before Gortat.

There's someone. He's overlooked. Plays in the west. Rolls very well. Boards above his paygrade. Sets top 10 screens. Shares a connection with one of the team's starters. Has experience holding his ground against the big name bigs. Salary match. If you dig around, he's expressed interest to play with a contender. And lastly, Rivers already expressed affinity for his game. I don't want to name him yet to ward off any jinxes or give the other team a heads up.

Want to see Landry Shamet featured more in the offense and take over some PG duties/ things off the bounce.

Re: What do you think is missing for a Chip squad?
Ideally a mobile defensive big, someone who can hold their own on switches, but can also battle inside and protect the rim. Those guys aren't just readily available, and it's more a want than absolutely needed.
The season will let us know though, trades can still be made after the team sees what areas might need strengthening 35-40 games in. This team has a lot of versatile offensive and defensive players, something former Clippers teams never had. The advantage of this is that you can make up for areas that aren't strong and you can find lineup combinations for most scenarios.

Way too early to say that, and even then, there are rare teams and seasons where we can say that. There's still a lot of season to play, some players make unexpected strides. For example, who was predicting the 67 win Warriors and Draymond becoming a DPOY level guy and top big man playmaker? Most people agreed with Kerr's original plan of starting Lee over him even.
So let's see how the Clippers and opponents look half way through the season before even contemplating that barring health problems, this team can't be beat in a 7 game series. It's way too presumptuous.

Re: What do you think is missing for a Chip squad?
My preferred Order of possibly available Centers
Ideally a bruiser, who can defend, 3pt shooting a plus
#1 Marc Gasol via buyout
#2 Boban the Destroyer for SRP + MacGruder (or whatever salary filler needed)
#3 Nerlens Noel for SRP (he makes the min)
PGs
Ideally a floor general with size, who can defend, and 3pt shooting would be nice
#1 Jeremy Lin via buyout from his Beijing Ducks squad
#2 Elfrid Payton for Rodney MacGruder + SRP?
#3 Emmanual Mudiay for SRP (makes the min)
These would be my targets, the buyout market should be very favorable for the Clippers as theyll be a top team in a very attractive location.
Although i kinda do wonder, how starting Kawhi/PG13 at SF/SG would do. If a good PF buyout target presents itself and can outplay JaGreen and PatSquared.
