Nashty: Game 3 vs Clippers

Post#1 » by bwgood77 » Sun Oct 27, 2019 4:50 am

How it works:
Spoiler:
Anyone can vote for the 3-2-1 (including other fans from other forums) but you can only vote for the Suns players (or coach).

3 votes to who you think was a the best Suns player.
2 for the second best
and 1 for the 3rd best.

**EDIT: as of January something-or-other 2017, you can now distribute votes for the Nashty and Cactus however you please. You have a total of 6 votes to give out, but now you have the freedom to do what you want with those 6. The only condition which applies is no more than 3 votes can be given to one player in either award. **

In the event of a Suns loss, you are also encouraged to vote for the Cactus of the game:

-3 votes for the player most responsible for the loss
-2 votes for the second most responsible
-1 for the third most responsible

Any votes with more than 3 players listed and not in the required format will not count. Voting will close before the start of the next Suns game.

After the thread closes, the votes will be tallied. The highest scoring total Sun gets 3 points, the next 2, and the third gets 1 point towards their season total. In the event of a tie in a count for a game, if the result of the game is a Suns win, a maximum of 4 players will be awarded points. A tie in the event of a loss will only result in a maximum of 3 players getting awarded points.

The player with the highest total at season's end wins the award!

The same applies for the Cactus of the Year, although of course the lowest tally at year's end takes it.

10+1 Game update wooooooo

bat, where u been?
Making a new scoring system that automatically pushes all y'all scores into the spreadsheet

Why'd it take so long for an update?
I put it down to growing pains, trying to make this thing work better

How does it work?
It tallies everyone's scores and then normalizes them. From there it distributes the scores for the game based on these normalized vote tallies.

Has anything changed in the way I vote?
Not really. Of course, the more standard and consistent the voting style, the better for me to handle. It's still in development so I will begin to handle less standard styles of voting with time.

What are the scoring rules?
Same as usual. We've stopped allowing voting for coach in the official vote as it messes with the consistency of the scoring system. As has always been the case - you cannot give any player in either award a vote bigger than +/-3. If you do, I just cap it at +/- 3.

However you'll now see in the spreadsheet that players are getting decimal scores and now some players are getting scores higher than 3. That's due to the game scaling. The standard score total to hand out is 6. In wins, that goes up, in losses that goes down. And vice versa for the Cactus.

HOWEVER this doesn't affect they way you vote for players- you still get only 6 votes in either award. The scaling comes after the votes are tallied.

Officially, the scores being given out in either award are calculated like this:

6 + 2*(margin/30)

Josh Jackson got a -4.1, whaaaaaaaat?
-6 + 2*-(30/30) = -8
Suns lost by 30 so there were 8 Cactii to give out. Josh just happened to get a majority of them.

How accurate is this new app?
As accurate as a human doing it. Because well, it's still a manual process. I confirm/edit each post's votes to make sure they are correct. It just happens to make things much quicker.

Tough one...so many players stepped up.

+1 Baynes
+1 Booker
+1 Carter
+1 Kaminsky
+1 Oubre
+1 Saric

May edit since Booker had such a good game but really I think it was such a team effort and Baynes' screens and Carter's D were huge...and both PFs were solid shooting and moving the ball. Oubre with nice energy.

Booker and Kaminsky might deserve a little more but I can't really justify taking points away from the others.

GREAT GAME!

Phenomenal after playing an OT game in Denver last year and missing our starting PG AND C...probably 2 of our best 3 players.

Mark me down for the same, BW. Definitely a team win tonight. Everyone contributed, had some struggles but played through it. Excellent resiliency tonight.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Everybody goes on there in my view. But especially Saric and Booker for bouncing back when we really need them.

+1 Booker - We saw a bit more iso-Book than the previous 2 games but we also saw a ton of off-ball action from him in this game. He was efficient, passed the ball well and hit some daggers for us. He's certainly playing up to his max contract without the increased scoring production which is the amazing part.

+1 Oubre - 4 fouls (and a T iirc) and was non-factor for at least the 1st half of the game but game back in the 2nd half with his patented energy, dynamism and just the ability to force change in us and in the other team. I'm not always a fan of his game but when he's on, he can be the best player on the court for us even with Ayton and Booker on the floor at the same time.

+1 Saric - It's been a bit of a roller coaster for me with Dario. I was a big fan of the trade when it happened because I was always a fan but I just didn't see the his impact until the last two games. He played solid D against Jokic in the last game despite looking severely undersized and in this game, he was massive for us hitting our guys with great passes, hitting from the 3 and rebounding extremely well in the absence of Ayton.

+1 Kaminsky - I was one of the few people who really liked this signing initially because of his ability to spread the floor, his fit with Ayton offensively and also the structure of his contract. But I never imagined he would be this good for us. I didn't watch a ton of Frank before he got here (4 seasons with Charlotte, who could blame me?) so I didn't realise the breadth of his offensive versatility, especially his passing until now. He has his flaws defensively but he's been our most consistent big man imo. Again, his passing and aggressiveness was on show against the Clippers.

+1 Carter - Another guy who I liked in the JJ trade (saw him as a poor man's Pat Bev) but I didn't anticipate he would be so confident handling the ball and even creating his own shot. He outplayed Pat Bev and really put the pressure on the D with his offensive abilities (that spin move down the lane on the fastbreak was :o ) His D is as expected and I loved the attitude, energy and swag that he brings. He's never going to be an elite passer but he's WELL on his way towards becoming a Pat Beverley with more experience.

+1 BAEnes - The guy is a giant. A wall. An absolute beast of a screener and he just takes up so much space. I love how much grit I get from him when he's on the court. He's not out there trying to be a Dwight Howard and demanding the ball. He's just out on the floor doinng what he does best and sticking to his role. I feel like we finally have a guy/enforcer on the team that you just don't want to mess with as a member of the other team and I think the absence of this enforcer type is what gave us that soft reputation over the past decade. I know we had the Morri and they seem to be the type that would fight but I really feel like we haven't had that type of guy on our team since we had Shaq that would really put you in the dirt. BAEnes is that guy now.

This - Book was our best player. Saric & Kaminsky get a bonus for playing their best games as a Sun so far.
