Is Graham Better than Rozier?

Post#1 » by ecuhus1981 » Sun Oct 27, 2019 12:23 pm

Hello, everyone. I'm a Nets fan at the pro level, and a Jayhawk at heart. I love keeping tabs on fellow KU alums, and it looks like Devonte' is having a heckuva start to the season. I always hoped he would get a legit chance in the league, and it seems his situation in Charlotte is a great opportunity. Rozier was acquired to be "that dude", but is there a PG battle brewing?

I have not seen any of your games this year so far. Statistically, it looks like Terry had a great preseason, and Graham struggled. In the really small sample size of your first 2 regular season games, it seems those roles are now reversed, Graham has been lights-out while Terry has languished.

First, is DG really outplaying TR, or do you think it is a case of how each fits their role? Secondly, do you see Devonte' winning the starting spot?

Rozier is a better basketball player, Graham has just started the season absolutely on fire

Not enough evidence yet to prove either way

shooting aside, graham's the better passer.

rozier will always have him beat on defense though.

Cool, I appreciate the feedback.

Truthfully, I didn't think Graham's future would be as a starter either. They bring different skill sets. If DG can remain HALF this hot, though, he'll be a killer weapon in the 2nd unit.

Terry is one of the better defenders at the PG position, Graham is below average I would say. I like Graham and think he is the future, just needs another season or two. Hornets signed Rozier to build him into an asset I believe and trade him to a desperate team at the deadline that is top loaded and needs more players

Me neither, but bacon and monk aren't very inspiring right now.

As a Wolves fan, and after seeing both games Hornets played, I much rather trade for Graham.
A) To have 2 Grahams in our Team lol
B) I absolutely did not rate Rozier in Celtics, let alone an overpaid Rozier.
C) Wolves biggiest need is a shooting/scoring PG and this kids even half of this level of shooting would be a boost.

The first game, Rozier was MIA, understandably. The second game, he committed too many early fouls, which kept him on the bench.

Come back in early December, and we'll have a better idea.

Only when you consider their contracts in comparison. Rozier is better than Graham but Rozier isn’t much of a difference-maker or needle-mover on a team that lacks talent and depth therefore at times (particularly in this tanking case) they will appear to be similar level players in a nutshell.

I've been a Graham fan since the draft. My belief is that he is going to be one of the best backup point guards in the league. I think that is his ceiling because he lacks some in his playmaking and defense. Rozier is a guy that starts because he has playmaking and defense. As a PG, those are valued over shooting unless you are Kemba elite at shooting. Graham could surprise me and keep up the heat, but odds are he will regress once defenses focus on stopping him. Either way, I'm excited for what he has already accomplished this season and hope he is a part of the team for many more years.

Graham is having a very rough game today. By far his worst to start the season. Shots arent falling.

Graham has a higher ceiling (who'da thunk it) but he's still a ways from realizing his potential. Spending a year behind Kemba and Tony Parker definitely helped.

graham needs to improve his defense, shot selection, despite hot 2 game start is also something to work on. very solid backup for now.

terry still better suited to start, both can play together.

has graham passed monk in everyones eyes or are some of the monk stans still clinging hope that 3 years from now monk will be better?

Monk turned 21 in February, so I'm inclined to think there definitely is still some development potential. With that said, I'm not convinced he's worth waiting on.

Where I disagree with most regarding Monk Is I have always believed and still believe he should have been developed as a point guard and not a shooting guard. He always seems to play his best when he had the ball in his hands or is it least very involved in the offense. Otherwise he is a complete net negative, due to his abysmal defense, and inability to contribute in any other meaningful way. Using him as a spot-up Corner shooter to stretch the defense is pointless.

If the coaching staff isn't committed to putting the ball in his hands, which I can understand why they aren't willing to do that, then I would suggest going ahead and cutting ties with him, try to get anything of value and then give all those minutes to another young player who might fit the system better.

So far, both Rozier and Graham seemed to be unwilling to involve monk as a secondary playmaker. And some of that responsibility falls on monk to be more assertive on offense instead of disappearing for long stretches. He clearly has some decent playmaking instincts as evidenced by his Infamous 1 move where he passes to a big man cutting through the lane. While it's just one scale, he seems to be pretty good at it. There are plenty of players in the league has made a living off of perfecting one skill.

He is absolutely not the type of player who can score efficiently if he's not heavily involved in the offense getting a lot of touches. He will never be a JJ Reddick type who can move off the ball it's cool 2020 the game on a nothing but catch-and-shoot jumpers.

All that being said, until he learns to play any form of Defense I don't blame coaches for not putting him out there. There's a reason the other team goes on a big run every time he comes in the game. And I'm not sure whose idea was to have him be the guy to double team opposing players. Watching him wander aimlessly around the paint trying to figure out when and how to double is painful. Just as painful to watch as him trying to figure out how to box out for a rebound.

I fully expect him to have a bounce-back game now that I've taken the time to talk trash.
