Man, for as valuable as these players are to these franchises, you would think they'd have some sort of protection plan for them, where if something like this happened, he could call the Lakers, and they'd get him and his family out of there and into a designated safe/comfortable place. Come chopper them to the team jet or something, and fly them to vegas.
The thought of him driving around looking for a place to stay just seems silly, even if for him that meant like the penthouse at the Ritz.
