Did Lynch redeem himself & find a playa in the 6th round?

There is no way Mike Person is better than this guy. When Staley comes back, Skule needs to move to LG, and Tomlinson goes to RG.

Skule looked good in the preseason run blocking. His issue was pass blocking. That is where he struggled in the preseason. I would like to see what his pass blocking grade was. I didn't notice how he pass blocked last night. Seems like the Shanahan's game plan last night was for Jimmy G to get the ball out quickly to avoid the pass rush. I doubt Shanahan will juggle the line that way. He was against it after Staley got hurt. Said he doesn't want to move other guys around.

Excellent first start. Clearly not quite the player Skule is, but stepping in & handling a really good Rams' DL is impressive.

It looks like we have a guy that could be ready to step in when Staley retires

Eh. Maybe. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Easily a starter at some position for the long term IMO. I'd like to see what he can do at RG. McGlinchey might be the future at LT.

I'm still hoping for someone else like Trent Williams next year.

Now Daniel Brunskill is playing out of his mind. Last week, Skule had the highest PFF score of anyone on the team (except I think Kittle). Now Brunskill made the all-OL team for the entire league in week 8.

I'm starting to think it's the system. I've never seen a team pull 2 OTs out of their asses and play near pro-bowl level before.

One? Yeah. Everyone's seen that. I can't remember seeing two.

Iincredible. OLineman are in short supply. Alot of backups in this league aren't very good.

Do not spend a 1st round pick on a guard or tackle next year IMO.

Not trying to take anything away from their great performances, but do you think it might be the scheme & not their talent?

I thought I saw a stat showing the Niners are 3rd last in the league in time given to the QB to throw.

That is not surprising. The offense is running alot of short routes and screens. They are not running many deep drop backs.

That is kind of my point, if a 6th round pick and a guy that has been on PS for a couple years and played in the AFL can succeed in the offense/scheme what is the point of drafting another Olinemen in the 1st round next year when we don't have a pick rounds 2-4?

I think the argument would be that the scheme can't fully realize it's potential with those types of players - even as it's devastating arguably the third-best defense in the league. That said, these guys are young and could continue to develop. I'd like to see us move McGlinchey to LT at some point, but not until Staley is gone. I'd be okay with Skule or Brunskill, or Coleman if/when we ever get him on the field - holding down RT given what we've seen to date. We don't have the picks to address OT this offseason, anyway. We absolutely must address DB next year, even though the unit has been a pleasant surprise to date this year.

NFL Offensive Line Rankings - Week 8

https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-offensive-line-rankings-week-8

Cardinals 23rd, Seahawks 25th, Rams 31st. And the Seahawks just lost Britt for the season.

So when Staley returns (hopefully this week), who goes to the bench? Does Brunskill keep the RT job until McGlinchey returns or does Skule slide over to the other side of the line?

That makes the most sense (Brunkill Staying on the field), but I’m hoping the guy who gets the bench is Person. Find a way to keep the best five lineman on the field.

Not sure what the issue with Person is. In the Carolina game, he had the Niners fifth highest PFF grade on offense (behind Kittle, Tomlinson, Coleman, and Brunskill). And he's only allowed one sack so far this season. That's not too shabby.
