I had him number 7 on my big board

I think he's healthy but sitting on the bench, waiting for his opportunity. So far he only got to play in garbage minutes.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

The Jazz are currently ranked fifth worse in turnovers per game at 19.5. I think a lot of this is new players getting used to each other, but some turnovers have been just plain lazy passes and lack of focus. I am sure the coaches must be harping on this problem and I expect to see improvement. Mudiay had a few ugly turnovers, but his turnover percentage is roughly in the middle of Jazz players. DM and Bogey are the only Jazz players performing well on the TOV percentage measure.

Jazz player TOV percentage after four games, from worst to best:

Davis 33.3%, Gobert 32.7%, Niang 18.2%, Ingles 16.7%, Mudiay 16.1%, Green 15.2%, Conley 13.9%, O'Neale 13.9%, Bogdanovic 10.2%, Mitchell 6%

Same players last season:

Davis 12.8%, Ingles 12.7%, Gobert 12.6%, O'Neale 12.6%, Mudiay 11.8%, Green 10.0%, Mitchell 9.7%, Niang 9.3%, Bogey 9.1%, Conley 7.0%

It's too early for my random, not particularly meaningful Jazz stats, but these ones below are off to a great start! :D

Jazz are ranked number one on NBA.com Defensive Rating and ranked number one in opponents points per game.

Bogey and DM are tied for fifth best in NBA for NBA.com Net Rating (filters: at least three games played and 25 mpg).

It's pretty remarkable that the Jazz are 3-1 with how poorly so many players have been playing. Ingles has been trash, Davis has been trash for the most part, and I don't have words for Conley. However, one would think that things will stabilize over time, which gives me great hope that this will still be a special season, even if right now the Jazz look awful more often than decent.

Made a post in the trades and transactions board about who would be available for some combination of Dante, Bradley, 2nds, and/or our 2023 1st (lottery protected, 2 2nds, or something).

Most interesting names
Dante+2nds for Marvin Williams
Dante+2023 1st (w/protections) for Bobby Portis

I think if either of these is available, they could really help us. I'm partial to the Portis idea because of his age, but I like Marv more as a player.

There's no chance I would give up a first for Bobby Portis unless it's top 29 protected. I'm not sure we even need to target a PF.

I’m not bringing this up just because Conley has sucked, but one thing I didn’t think too much about is Malcom Brogdon.

The Pacers got him for a first and a couple of seconds. He also gets paid $12M less than Conley. I don’t know if he preferred Indiana anyways, but if we could have gotten him to sign up, we would have 1 more 1st and Allen + Crowder still. If we wanted to move on from them, we could have used that cap space and signed someone like Lamb or done the deal to take in Harkless (who we could really use) and receive a first.

Portis made sense if we hadn't signed Bojan, and while I really like Bojan, I would have preferred we'd signed Portis. The two sort of overlap so I don't think we need both. As for Marvin, no way I'm trading Exum for him.

As of tonight, we're number one in the West. Not bad considering that we haven't played very well. I'll take the ugly/easy wins as they come.

You beat me by 28 minutes. I was about to say it.

It has been a while indeed. Let's keep it.

Go Jazz!

Dante-Donovan backcourt has intrigued me ever since that summer league... they can be dynamic together. Well... if Dante could stay healthy that is. It will also give us some size back from what we lost in the summer. With Donovan running the second unit, I hope we see that combo more than we've seen so far. I think a lineup of Dante-Donovan-Ingles-Jeff Green-Gobert with the second unit might be real nice. Long, big, enough shooting and very athletic all around... except for Ingles but he's there to space out.

Gotta love DM the eternal optimist. Unfortunately even when Conley starts hitting a few shots its still going to be a bad fit.

Curious why you think that. I wasn't thrilled with Conley's age or height, but thought he would be a great fit and a massive upgrade for the team. I'm hoping that he is just adjusting after playing his entire career with another team and that it will click at some point. Why do you think otherwise?

On a scale of 1-10, how much as the size difference matter against LAL and PHI?

For me that's about a 2. We'll get another test against MIL tomorrow. The supposed benefit from extra spacing/shooting is also at about a 2 right unfortunately.
