Re: Kawhi Leonard
Afraid Kawhi might hurt himself trying to do too much?
Give some minutes to McGruder, who returns tonight?
Putting the pressure on/giving the other guys a chance to assert themselves?
Maybe all 3. I do think the others are deferring to Kawhi too much and losing their own spark. Teamwork is fine, well, and good but so is going for 40 and 20.

Re: Kawhi Leonard
Guys, you do realize that this is game one of a back to back? Meaning tonight's game will be our fifth in eight nights. Tomorrow's will be six in nine nights. This should have been expected. We arent going to tax him this early in the season on a run like this, George or not.
To put things in perspective... After tomorrow's game against Utah, we play four games in 11 nights.

Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Wack.
I think Utah can be pretty good and playing them on the road would be a good test for us early.
But I guess Kawhi doesn't want to miss the chance to play the Spurs.
Nonetheless, it's still wack to me because IDC about his Spurs vendetta but.....I plan to move on from this immediately after I click submit.
The move is actually quite strategic. Toronto used it last year. He sat out against several top conference teams on the road. Why show them anything if you plan to meet them in the playoffs. He sat out @ Warriors last year.
We have more than enough to still compete tonight.

Kawhi isnt playing 6 games in 9 nights during the regular season. I wouldnt expect George to play 6 in 9 either. Thats all this is.

disappointing in the sense that i'd rather see him play and have a better chance to win.
but really it's not unexpected and it makes sense. so whatever.

I’d rather him play tonight against the Jazz and sit tomorrow.
Idc that we’re gonna pick our spots in resting him.
Tonight was the spot.

They probably figured they have a better chance of beating the spurs tomorrow if Kawhi plays. They are probably underdogs against Utah whether he plays or not. Also, maybe he didn’t even travel with the team

It's not unreasonable for fans to be upset that he's not playing. They've downplayed load management ever since they signed kawhi.TucsonClip wrote:Guys, you do realize that this is game one of a back to back? While I didn't anticipate kawhi playing all 82,I did anticipate him playing this week. When doc was asked about it in the press conference after the hornets game he hinted that he would play.
Kawhi himself said load management was more of coming off an injury and not something moving forward
So yeah, if they were just upfront with the fans, lot less would be pissed off

Not sure what theyve been downplaying other than they aren't going to load manage him like Toronto did. I'd still expect him sitting out 12+ games. Which should be expected.

Doc was specifically asked about the stretch

9min mark. Kinda just dismissive about the whole thing, said the nba was great at limiting back to backs so they haven't had to talk about that. They knew ahead of time because they had to notify the league because it was a national televised game and no one believed they weren't going to load manage. We still don't know if it'll be as much as toronto or worse. I really don't believe anything they said, including Kawhi because kawhi said he plans to play it like a regular season, that's the plan.
And load managed in the 5th game of the season.
I'm fine with load management, but notify the fans. There are fans that buy tickets to see their favorite superstar play. Some people even fly from out of town. Just be considerate of the fans.

He's on track to become a top main playmaker, and that's the one thing he was lacking so far.
So glad he chose to come here.
Destiny.
Kawhi is the Clippers destiny. The Clippers are Kawhi's destiny.
(I don't actually believe in destiny, for the record)

Good stuff. Because if Trezz and Lou doesn't step up on the defensive end they're getting shipped out. Jonas Valanciunas got traded for this reason because his defense sucked

Depends on who the trade is for.
So Jonas is bad defensively? I kinda thought he could be an upgrade at the Center spot for us, no?

No I meant when Kawhi was on the Raptors last season. Jonas Valanciunas got traded because he was a liability on defense. That's why they replaced him with Marc Gasol

April 2018:
https://raptorsrapture.com/2018/04/17/toronto-raptors-still-jonas-valanciunas-problem/
- In today’s NBA, Valanciunas is too large of a liability on the defensive end. On/Off lineup data shows the Raptors are a better defensive team when JV is not on the court. When JV is on the court the Raptors have a defensive rating of 106.0, which would rank 15th in the NBA. However, when he is off the court the Raptors rating improves to 101.3, which would rank first.
Valanciunas is not a victim of circumstance either, JV’s presence negatively impacts the team’s defensive ratings when paired alongside both Serge Ibaka and Pascal Siakam.
As for Zubac,
- 16.3 mpg 110.2 ORtg 93.7DefRating +16.6 NetRating
Now, I think he's being babied, mostly only out on the court when the opps have a traditional center out there as well, but it doesn't look like there's any serious upgrade out there either. Unless he develops some heretofore unknown skill, he'll have trouble breaking 20 mpg, but when you need a 7-footer to face off against a 7-footer, Zubac is up to the job.
And in case you're wondering about Trezz [and you are]:
- 27.7 mpg 115.8 ORtg 113.1 DefRating +2.7 NetRating
...although keep an eye on this
- Home 31.9 109.0 100.5 +8.5
Road 23.5 124.7 129.7 -5.0

What I'm asking is, is Jonas really that bad Defensively (I don't know). Marc Gasol was an upgrade for the Raptors last year; added a savvy veteran for their Playoffs run. I liked the trade for Toronto, but I still like Jonas... he rebounds, he's efficient offensively, he's just hitting his physical prime.
I had Jonas in mind as a potential acquisition for the Clippers as some point (depending). Zubac is a puppy, and if we're making the "all-in" push for now, for these next two years, then I thought Jonas might be our upgrade.
I'm not making the argument to make the trade/acquisition, I just have that idea floating around.

Maybe Jonas wasn't the optimal fit for what Toronto had, but I (again) wonder is/was Jonas really liability on Defense?
Broad strokes...
Career Def Rtg
- 104 - Marc Gasol (111, Off Rtg)
104 - Jonas Val (117, Off Rtg)
108 - Ivica Zubac (114, Off Rtg)
109 - Montrezl (124, Off Rtg)
(DefRtg in the Playoffs, 104, 107, 113, and 121)
22 yr old Zubac doesn't have his man-strength yet.
27 yr old Jonas is coming into his physical prime right now.
34* yr old Marc (of last year*) gave Toronto veteran savvy at C.
6'8" Montrezl hasn't learned what Rebound is yet (evidently).
Mind you, in the 2018 PLAYOFFS, Jonas lead the LEAGUE in Rebounding Percentage; Def, Off, and Tot (10 games)... #4 in PER... #5 and #6 in Blk Ptg and Blk/G... #8 in Reb/G...
Return to Los Angeles Clippers
